Happy November! I know. I know. You’re still basking in the glow of leftover Halloween candy but Today is the day the the Michael’s Makers are revealing their Dream Trees. I was so honored to be a part of this and slightly intimidated as well! Ultimately, I decided to go with key elements on the tree that held really special memories for me. My inspiration piece was the magnolia tree that my grandmother had in her backyard. I loved seeing that tree when I spend time there. And so My Dream Tree began with the magnolia blooms. Hope you enjoy. With the old fashioned, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” lettering, I wanted to evoke a bit of a classic, old fashioned feels so I used plenty of black and white. Embellishing each ornament was a fun way to continue my color scheme. The adjacent mantel was kept very simple with some greens and gold accents. I do think that often times less is more. Michael’s has the cutest grosgrain ribbons available and I used the hounds tooth and stripes to wrap up the gifts. I couldn’t find a white tree skirt so I picked up some felt and pom poms and went to town. It could not have been easier. I’ll share more of the how to in a later post. Monograms made from glittered stickers are a nice way to personalize your Christmas. I also knew I wanted a bow at the top of the tree as I have really fond memories of my mom teaching me how to tie those bows when I was just a little girl. I grew up in a house where my parents went all out decorating really beautifully for Christmas and she would tie the bows to go up the staircase with their garlands. Just another nice reminder of childhood. I often wonder what little things my own two will pick up on and carry out with they are grown {hopefully not my baking skills}. Thanks for letting me share my Dream Tree with you. I will be sharing a post in a couple of weeks on tree decorating tips and more about some of the DIY projects that went into creating this look. ·Be sure to stop by Michaels’ blog, The Glue String, to see the full Dream Tree Challenge. I can’t wait to go and see what the other Michael’s Makers did with their trees. They always blow me away. And if you like to think about the Christmas season early, you can pop into Michaels Nov. 2 through Nov. 8 for the Make It Merry Tree Event – 50% off all trees 6 ft. or taller!!!

This is gorgeous! And I love all the sentiments that inspired this tree! My grandmother loved poinsettias and I used them for the first time last year 🙂 All the little black and white touches are killing me! I'm going to sip on my pumpkin lattes for a bit longer but I can't wait to switch gears to Christmas now!
Courtney {a thoughtful place} says
Thank you so much, Deme! That is so special about your grandmother. Enjoy those pumpkin lattes! One season at a time;)

love it all!!! how do you keep your black hunter boots so clean???
Courtney {a thoughtful place} says
Thank you, Erin! Well, it's much easier for me because we get maybe five days of rain in Southern California and no snow. Such a bummer. But the boots stay clean! Ha.

So so pretty!!! I'm seriously inspired to put my tree up now…even before Thanksgiving! I've been stocking up on that striped grosgrain ribbon every time Michaels has a sale…love how you paired it with classic red for a more updated feel. And nice tip on the big sale Michaels is having on their trees right now!! Great job!
Courtney {a thoughtful place} says
Thanks, Cass. I must say I am super ready for the Christmas season. My neighbors thought I was nuts as I had a tree lit through the window long before Halloween. . . but it's all good!
Jenny says
It all looks so cozy and beautiful! Nicely done! 🙂
Courtney {a thoughtful place} says
Thank you, Jenny!!! Fun to start thinking about the holidays!

Your tree looks very festive! I love to use classic red to decorate at Christmas. The last couple of years I have used white snowflakes and berry picks on my tree too.
