Does the Halloween Candy Fairy visit your house? I had first heard of this fun idea from my sister when her children were little. It’s really quite simple and is a huge hit with my kids. On November 1, the kiddos put out their candy for the Candy Fairy. And before you think I am so so mean, they of course get to pick out 10-15 pieces of their favorites to keep. {Mommy and Daddy The candy fairy gets the rest!}. Seeing as though my five year old counted more than 140 pieces of candy this year, the fairy should be quite pleased with her loot.
via pinterest from onecharmingparty.com The very next morning, the children find a fun surprise waiting for them. I really have to be honest as I had completely forgotten about the fairy this year until my children were sorting their candy last night and saying, “Boy, the Fairy is going to bring me a great gift this year!” Yikes. So some last minute shopping is in order. My daughter {who lacks a sweet tooth} insists on giving ALL of the candy away. We are trying to convince her to keep some but she wants to risk it in hope of a better gift. Oh, boy!
via pinterest Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against candy. But what I love about this is that it gets the 3 lbs of treats out of the house {who really needs that much candy} and it the kids love it. And the night is much more about dressing up and having fun with friends than it is about the candy. I had a sentimental moment last night watching my three and five year olds sort and trade their candy. I used to do that with my brother and sister. And since my son is allergic to chocolate, their was plenty of trading going on! So what about you? Does the candy fairy swing by your house as well?

I like the candy fairy! James didn't collect much, but we have so much left over b/c we overbought to pass out. It's little moments like sorting the Halloween candy that remind us of these sweet times with our families when we were kids. Those memories never fade.

Great idea, because I end up eating all the candy!

This is such a great idea!! I will definitely have to store this one away and use when we have some kiddos!

We call it the Halloween Goblin! Lots of boys in the house. We also have a dentist(or even a bank would work) that you can donate all the candy to and then he does something with it for the homeless shelters. Seriously such a good idea. The kids and mom and dad can take the candy they want, but who needs THAT much candy?!!? We let the kids have a tiny basket to fill up with their favorite candy and they can eat it whenever they want. That way when it's gone its gone. They usually fill up on a sugar high for 2 days and then it's all gone and nobody has to worry about it. I've got friends that still have Halloween candy past Christmas and the kids still ask for pieces every single day. That's got to get annoying.

I love this idea! We used to send our extras in with the girls to their teachers to use as "rewards"…most teachers had a small jar of candy they would keep that students could pick out from if they earned some type of reward.

Being familiar with your practice of the Halloween Fairy, I have passed the idea on to lots of other mothers who think it is a fantastic idea. 🙂

No the candy stays in our house but we put it away. They may ask for a piece occasionally but only for a day or two. My husband and I snack on it for a bit until I gross myself out with how much candy I'm eating and then send it all with him to work.

I love this idea, Courtney! I worked for a dentist for several years and he would buy back all the candy from the kids. They could select out what they wanted to eat and bring the majority in and get a little money to go by themselves a treat. The Halloween Candy Fairy is a wonderful idea!

That's a great idea! Jackson's orthodontist 'buys' the candy, for each pound they get a raffle ticket for an iPad drawing. Then they send the candy to the troops. I couldn't beleive both kids agreed to it this year…8 lbs!!! They didn't win, so I'm really having to talk up the soldiers to make them feel better!
