I really want to thank everyone for their sweet and supportive comments about our video yesterday. It’s always a leap of faith to put yourself out there and you all made us feel so loved. Thank you. I am here today with a super simple idea for summer. If you have school aged children, you may be interested in keeping them reading over the summer months. While I was running errands, I grabbed a piece of poster board and some cute crayon trim. It didn’t take much to make these quick charts and my kiddos are so fired up. In fact, they are so excited that my daughter has already cruised through three chapter books and summer has yet to begin for us. … ……………summer reading chart … All we have done is cut the poster board in half and drew some lines so that the kids can record the books they read. Our son will read his books with us and my daughter will write a quick paragraph about each book she reads. We told them we would have a family meeting and chit chat about what they might earn when they fill up their charts. But the best part is, they have completely forgotten about that part of it. They are just excited to have the charts and to have ownership over their reading. We let the kids choose where they wanted to hang their charts. This is Riley’s posted in her room. She has already begin filling it out and is really into it. The second my hubby came home from work, our son ran to the door and said, “Dad! Do you know why I am smiling? Because I have a book chart!” Who knew they would be so fired up?! Works for me. What about you? Have you set up any fun reading incentives for the summer? We still need to make our family summer fun list, too! One more week until summer for us. It’s coming quickly! have a great day

So cute — and love those colorful pics! Sloan's summer camp will go to the library once a week this summer, I need to do something like this to get more involved with it. Thanks for the great ideas!

Be sure and check out your local public library, too! We have fun Summer Reading Programs for kids of all ages, and many have programs for adults, too. One of the best thing you can do to raise a reader is to model reading for them. You could make a book chart for yourself. Happy Reading!
