I am back! I took a blogging break so that we could get ready for our three day weekend away. We snuck off to Big Bear which is less than two hours from our home. It’s a quick trip and there is nothing better than some down time in the mountains. We were lucky enough to have just enough snow to let the kids experience skiing for the very first time. We also enjoyed being lazy, tubing, hiking, snuggling, playing games, and watching Frozen . . um, like 12 times. This house we stayed in is just beautiful. Friends of mine own it and they created such a gorgeous home away from home. It is a special place for us as we have been taking the kids to Big Bear since they were five months old. They love it here and I think you will see why. Here is a tour of the home and a few photos of our vacation. I have a soft spot for a Cape Cod style house. And the wrap around porch is dreamy. More photos of the home and snapshots from our family vacation . . . The open floor plan is perfect, especially for good family time. And thank you to my hubby for making us breakfast every morning in this beautiful kitchen. You can see why we love coming here! It’s such a comfortable place to be. Guest room number one: my daughter adores this room! Guest bathroom Mater Bedroom {so comfy!!!} Mater Bathroom most perfect tub, ever. Guest Room Number Two The best part of staying in a house is being able to prepare meals. Don’t get me wrong, nothing fancy as it’s vacation. But the kids loved making their own pizzas. And after skiing or hiking all day it’s fun just to be cozy inside and hang out as a family. Loving the look of concentration below. Pizza making is serious business. Simple, easy, and yummy. Perfect for a getaway. Just can’t believe how big these kiddos are getting. The three days went by way too quickly. I just love this crew of mine and spending uninterrupted time with them. Here are a few iPhone photos we took during the weekend. This one below was taken as we stopped on our way up the mountain. Nothing better than an impromptu lesson on East and West facing mountains and rock formation {once a teacher, always a teacher}. We opted not to put the kids in ski school so we could all stay together. My husband has crazy, mad ski skills so I snapped this one of him giving his cuties some pointers. This little girl is a natural. Holy cow. I was so proud of how brave both kids were. My two favorite boys. This was the last weekend the runs would be open {notice the barren ground} so we lucked out by being able to introduce these two to skiing just in time. They are hooked for sure. A post skiing photo as we watched daddy go down the mountain a couple of times. I could watch that man ski all day. What a trip. Such fun. It held special meaning for us as a family as it was the anniversary of the passing of my husband’s dear friend. He and Jack loved skiing together so this was a wonderful tribute to him and their friendship. Thanks for letting me share. And sorry for the blog absence the last few days. Now you now why! If you are interested in renting the beautiful home we stayed in, you can go here to check it out.

Hard to believe it has been a year since Dr. Jack passed away. I do hope his family is doing well and glad you could honor him in such a wonderful way.

We went during the big storm. We planed our Big Bear trip a few weeks before. The weather was beautiful. (As it has been all winter. ) The day we were to leave, we got that huge storm. Don't get me wrong. We need all the rain we can get in Cali. But, we were in a blizzard for 4 days. We lucked out during the drive up and down though. We went the day before the storm and left the day after it ended. I need to post pics of the cabin we stayed in. It was 5000 ft of coziness. I love Big Bear
Your pictures are beautiful. Looks like you guys had so much fun.
