Amazing Quick Appetizer {must try}

November 11, 2010 by Courtney 14 Comments

Okay. I normally don’t do the recipe thing on here, but this one is worth passing along. I am hosting Thanksgiving again, so I whipped out my file from last year to start figuring out the menu. I always like to do a couple tried and true apps that everyone loves, and then throw in some new, unexpected ones. This one was the big winner. Both adults and kids loved it and I will be serving it at an upcoming Christmas cocktail party. And I promise you it’s easy to throw together! You won’t have the ingredients on hand, necessarily, but it’s worth grabbing them. It all comes together in under 10 minutes. Picture of Sauteed Shrimp Cocktail Recipe                              Sautéed Shrimp Cocktail – giada {food network}

  • 2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 lb. jumbo shrimp {peeled, tail-on, de-veined}
  • 1 Tbsp. herbs de Provence
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 1/4 Cup plain yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp. mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp. whole grain mustard { I just used brown mustard]
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. Turmeric { I had to ask my mom what that was!} It’s a spice & you need it!
  • 1/4 Cup chopped fresh basil leaves

In a large skillet, heat oil over med-high heat. Add shrimp and herbs. Add salt and pepper. Cook until pink {about 2 minutes per side} In a bowl, mix yogurt, mayo, mustard, syrup, turmeric, and basil until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Place in a bowl on a serving platter with shrimp {obviously!} Couple of notes:

  • It makes more dipping sauce than you will need. Every last shrimp was gone, so what I would do next time is put out only HALF the dip saving the other half for dipping carrots and celery the next day {just a thought}.
  • Sauce would be really cute in a festive martini glass with the shrimp at the base.

    That looks incredible. When I one day broaden my horizons with a visit to your beautiful country, I'll be requesting this when I swing by for a visit, along with Sonia on a chalkboard coaster. x
