Good morning. In case you missed it, I shared a basement update in our Monday Morning Wrap Up. We are still in the demo phase and it’s a complete mess but I LOVE this stage. There is something about it that is so energizing to me. And because we are still in the dirt and chaos stage, it’s fun to start dreaming about what the space could become. I called this the Basement Mood Board Part 1 because I may change my mind ten times. This is just what I’ve been envisioning and thought it would be fun to share.
- artwork – this one has rave reviews from Amazon
- sconces – always a sucker for these double arm sconces
- sofa – a splurge and dream
- plaid rug – indoor/outdoor
- leather swivel chair – have had my eye on these for a while
- coffee table – warm marble top
- olive tree – always nice to incorporate greenery whether real or faux
- basket – the stripes add so much
Because the rest of our home is quite light with decor and paint, I think we are going to go dark and moody in the basement. It gets plenty of natural light so I am not afraid of it feeling like a cave, but I really do think a warm, masculine vibe would be really fun. I think paint and picture frame molding can really change a space and that is what I will rely heavily on for this project.
Not sure a light sofa is the way to go so we may switch that up, too. But I have dreamt about this fabric that everyone loves. Literally everything comes off of it which is not the case with our family room sectional. This sectional is an investment, but I have heard rave reviews. This sectional is also really pretty and not as pricey. I think incorporating a plaid rug would give it a warm and welcoming feel. This one is also really nice and comes in three colors.
MORE COZY FINDS
This was another board I shared recently with some warm and cozy finds from Amazon. I really like the warmth of the round wood coffee table.
- faux green branches – we have these on our island and love them
- vase – just ordered this (great reviews)
- double sconce – so chic and classic
- artwork – wonderful price to add warmth and charm
- neutral rug – this one is so pretty but I also love this one (we have the runner)
- sideboard – this can be put together or separated into two pieces. so smart.
- boucle chair – I really like the texture these add to a room
- basket – nice to use as a planter or for blankets
- walnut coffee table – huge fan of this brand and wish I had a spot of this
- candle holders – what a pretty set, love the unique antique look
- plaid pillow – this is a steal and adds a more masculine look to a space
What do you think? Should we go bold and moody? We have a long way to go before we are actually putting the space back together but dreaming about the design is what keeps us going.
In case you missed it, we kicked off this project here (before photo) and shared what we do and don’t want for this space. Wishing you a great day. Thanks for stopping in.

I LOVE the dark and moody! We did our basement in a dark gray with a navy sectional. It came out perfect! It gets plenty of light and we love to spend time down there – correction, our teenage daughter loves to spend time down there. We go down there when she’s not home!

Love it! What paint color is that, please?

Go for it! Our basement doesn’t get much natural light and we still went with a medium/dark gray on the exterior walls & black tiles on ceiling. It turned out great (our floor, pool table, bar, etc are a light oak color). Surprisingly the effect is that the ceiling sort of disappears and makes the room look bigger.
