Big Boy Bedroom Begins & Winner!

July 18, 2011 by Courtney 21 Comments

Happy Monday! Well we have officially jumped into the big boy bedroom project! I have held onto the crib and my baby boy for as long as possible! We have a looooooooong way to go and much to do. Many DIY projects are in the works, but we did manage to begin with building little man’s new bed {well, the hubby put it together while the kids and I got busy with the cardboard boxes it arrived in!} Here are some shots of the baby room. Because he was our second, we had learned that less is more with decorating for the baby stage. It was gender neutral to begin with as we didn’t know whether we were having a boy or a girl. In fact we made due with things we had and spent very little on new items. We kept it very simple in anticipation of switching it up once he was old enough to have a say in his space. That time has arrived. Baby Boy Room Before IMG_2510IMG_2517IMG_2521IMG_2522IMG_2528IMG_2537 BTW: I painted the letters myself and then glued different coordinating ribbons around the outer edges of all of the letters. It’s a quick and easy way to add some pattern and color. IMG_2539IMG_2544 Such a sentimental piece. This rocker has been in the family for so long and my sister and I both rocked all of our children in it. Many late nights and long hours in this sweet rocker. I read “Goodnight Moon” to my children more times than I could ever count right in this spot. And that little navy dresser once belonged to my Great Uncle. Nice to be surrounded by such meaningful pieces. IMG_2551 I have actually switched up the design for this room. I had previously made a design board here. However, after chatting more with my client {Grady} I realized it was going to look much too sophisticated for my spunky three old boy. There is plenty of time for sophistication down the road! So stay tuned for more on the design! It promises to be a slow but fun process.   IMG_2556 We told the kiddos they needed to stay out of the room while daddy got organized! They chose to sit in the doorway and watch as the master got to work. IMG_2559IMG_2563 The kids were able to use the power tools once or twice with the help of daddy, and then they soon realized it would be way more fun downstairs with mommy! We started building a storefront for the much anticipated, “Race Car Candy Store”. They have been planning this for weeks so the bed boxes provided just the right amount of cardboard to get started. Not to mention daddy was quite finished with our, “help!”   IMG_2568IMG_2570 They haven’t stocked it with candy yet {as we didn’t have any in the house} so I will keep you posted on their sales! ……………………………………………. And now that I have made you look at all those photos, I can reveal why you really came by today! I am super excited to announce the winner of the awesome Black & Decker Steam-Mop. Thank you to all that entered. I wish you could all have one {Black & Decker are you listening?} congratulations and happy cleaning to:  43 alexandria Miss Alexandria from The Saga of a Twenty-Something Congrats, Alexandria! So excited for you. Shoot me an email so I can send your info off to Black & Decker! Have a great Monday, everyone!

Wow! I am Loving that bed!! My little one was 2.5yrs when she got her own bed (just turned 3 last month), though I couldn't let her sleep in anything higher than a trundle bed, lol! She's also still in my room!
Have fun working out how to decorate your little boy's room with him!!

Your kids are adorable and I don't say that about everyone's kids! Can't wait to see the finished room. I am with you I want my baby boy to stay in his nursery for as long as possible but I do have a file where I store inspiration pics for his big boy room!

ohh Courtney, can you share where his bed is from? I love it!

Also, I really liked his nursery. Simple is best for babies, in my opinion. They sure don't stay babies for long though! Sniff sniff.

Your kids are darling, Courtney! So cute. How fun their little race car candy booth is! Grady's baby room was adorable. I love the touch of the ribbon on the edges of the letters. You are so creative. It'll be fun to see his big boy room once you're finished. I noticed your black and white pregnancy photos, too. Beautiful!

Cannot wait to see what you come up with Courtney… and its refreshing that you consulted your son 🙂 I feel that often we aim for pleasure in design not purpose!

Aw, onto a big boy room. We didn't know what we were having either so we kept it somewhat neutral, but a lot of the items we got once we had our daughter can stay with her moving into a big girl room and growing with her (at least I hope). Can't wait to see what you do for his new room.
