Big Boy Room Progress: The Trundle Bed

October 20, 2011 by Courtney 27 Comments

The big boy room is just about finished! The striped toy closet was the latest project, and I am about to stencil a wall to wrap up the room. I am a bit aprehensive about jumping into the stenciling, but the time has come. I wanted to show you the big boy bed. I searched high and low and was super duper picky. I think it’s hard when you have something in your head and then go out to find it. But alas, I did. It’s a captain’s style bed with a great trundle. What I really love is that the bed sits high so that when someone sleeps on the trundle, they feel as though they are in a normal bed. IMG_4770 IMG_4768 Because it sits high, we simply pull out the trundle about 18” each night. Grady uses it as a step, and it provides a soft place to land just in case there was some rolling off the bed action {it has yet to happen so fingers crossed!}. IMG_4778 The top row of drawers is the trundle mattress, and the bottom three drawers hold extra sheets and blankets. s o u r c e s bed: bunk bed king seersucker duvet and sham: Ikea cabana striped pillows: HomeGoods lime green pillows: Target turtle pillow: {Target . . was in Grady’s nursery} hardware on bed: Lee Valley   IMG_4775 IMG_4755 To see details on the other elements in the room you can see past posts on the gallery wall, green dresser, hardware,  and reading corner here. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Wish me luck with the stenciling! I will be doing the wall behind the bed {the one with the small awkward window!}

    Love the trundle bed. My oldest has one and it's a great solution not that we have regular sleepovers around our house. The room looks great!

    I just love his room! A trundle is a great choice. Perfect for guests, a sleepover with sister, or a sick night where mom and dad have to stay close by. I love the colors you chose, blue and green together is my favorite combo.

    COURTNEY. I die. Can I come live with little G in that room? I'll take the trundle! Seriously… I can't believe you got the seersucker bedding from Ikea- it's adorable. And I need a turtle pillow like that, for real. You are doing an amazing job in that room! I need a little boy so I can style his room too… looks like so much fun! Good luck with the stencil. Just remember, patience young grasshopper.

    The room looks so great! What little boy wouldn't be happy in there? We put a captain's bed in my son Elliott's room, although it doesn't have a trundle, just drawer storage. I love that it also serves as a just-in-case crash mat!

    Oh Courtney, Grady's room is just adorable!
    I love the trundle bed you found – even the hardware is fabulous!
    My daughter has a trundle and I am not kidding when I tell you that from the time she came out of her crib until she was about 5, we pulled out the trundle and she slept on that EVERY night! She's 11 now and the trundle has turned out to be one of the smartest purchases we ever made with friends and cousins sleeping over all the time! I am sure you'll get a lot of use out of that extra bed. Hope your sweet boy is enjoying all this excitement of a "new" room!

    Grady's room is adorable! Love the color combination and the trundle bed. I bet Grady loves that bed! Growing up I had a friend who had one and I thought it was so much fun to spend the night at her house. I have no doubt that you are going to do a fantastic job with the stenciling! Have fun!

    So perfect and I'm loving that it does double duty as a kid-catcher!!! ha! Mine always have to have the railings and they are such an eye-sore! This option is so much better!

    It looks great! The color combo is fantastic. Love the pops of lime green. I have to say I'm so glad you pull out the bed! (As a mom, I kinda freaked only b/c I have a bed story involving 911. Lol. I can laugh now…not then!)

    I don't envy the stenciling job ahead, but I know like everything else you do, it will be terrifical. It's not a word, but it will still be terrificial! 😉

    Courtney this room is just awesome! You found a great bed. I'm excited to see how the stencil comes out. When did you transition G from crib to bed? James has yet to crawl out of his crib, but I wonder if it's just a matter of time.
