So to catch you up to speed in case you missed yesterday’s post, I am planning to update our bonus room. It’s a well used and well loved space that needs a makeover. I really just want it to feel lighter and brighter and be well suited for all of our needs. I decided the best way to go about it {since it is such a large space that overwhelms me} is to create a design board for it. I do this for my clients, so why not for myself! Here is the room as it looks now:
And if you are thinking that the design board looks rather white and lacks color, don’t forget that ALL OF THE TOYS that fill this space are VERY colorful! I am counting on the pops of color to come from all of the primary colored toys my kiddos love so much. So now I have a plan. We’ll see how long it takes me to pull it all together. Since I am stepping over toys and messes in this room the majority of the time, I am not putting too much pressure on myself. Are you getting back into the swing of work and or kids going back to school? Today is our first day back with a real schedule and I must admit that I am moving very s l o w l y ! ! ! What about you?
The before space looks so nice but I can tell once you make those changes it is really going to brighten up the space and it will look great. I love the map and the frames and artwork display ideas.
Can't wait to see it. Love the map!!

You have a great space to work with, and I look forward to seeing how it comes together. It's always fun to work on spaces that get a lot of use – I think you appreciate them a lot more when your vision becomes reality! 🙂
Love your inspiration!!! Your bonus room is going to be gorgeous… white is one of my favorite colors! Can't wait to see some progress pics!
Great design plan, Courtney! I spent 5 days cleaning our basement and clearing out old toys. Normally I shut the door and pretend the toy explosion doesn't exist down there. It was so nice to de-clutter and organize. We even entertained friends down there on NYE.
I'm with you… the kids left 40 minutes ago for school, and I'm still in my jammies. It's hard to get back on schedule.
Happy 2012!!
In loooove with the kids art display, Ikea chandy and map. It's gonna be a great room! And yes, today's my first day back at work after the 3 day weekend… not moving so fast. In fact, I'm blogging instead of working, shhhhh ; )
Love the plan and how clever to let the toys add the playful pops of color. Moving at a snail's pace here, but that is ok. My son gets his stitches out and cast on today so that is the main focus.
today is my second day back…and I'm somehow moving slower than yesterday?!?! I thought breaks were supposed to re-energize you…not make you dread real life?!?!? Love the design board…I've been dying to use that light fixture somewhere. Did you see Little Green Notebook painted hers?
I think this is going to look awesome in the room! Love the big map and the fun lighting fixture!! 🙂
Looks wonderful! I'm loving the looks of those frames!
What a great bonus! Love it all!
It's my second day back. It went like this – I woke up – got them off to school- folded 3 loads of laundry – laid down for a quick nap at 9:00 am and didn't get up again until 11AM – oh my holy – I wasted an entire day!!!! Please don't say what my hubs said- sounds like your pregnant. 😉 I think I'm just readjusting to the 6:30 am thing and it's so dang hard! Oh yeah – and I love your board -especially that map and light fixture. I almost bought that fixture for my boy's room – I'm still deciding.
Love the plan you've come up with! Mixing the old with the new.
Slow and steady wins the race, right? (c: You already have a lovely room going on there, I can't wait to see all that inspiration getting poured into it!!! Maps and fun frames…yea dawg! I need to stop watching that Geico commercial, don't I?
Your room looks great…your plan is fanstastic but I love your current or "before" look also. This is our second day back and I've been running around like crazy as we are hoping to move early next week!
This is a really great space and I love your plan for it. I LOVE incorporating maps into decor, and if there are kids involved even better (never to early to learn where countries are in the world!). Just came across your blog and now following – looking forward to reading more!
The artwork, the toys… you will be exploding in kid color 🙂 Love the palette and the design, no doubt will be a fun room!
Slow? We are are DRAGGING. No one was awake here before 7:40 this morning… Hubs late to office, kiddos sleep walking to school, is it spring yet?
I love what you've come up with, Courtney! I think the wall of the kid's artwork will be fun and so meaningful. I have been trying to find a place in our house for that light fixture!
yep, toys are great for a "pop of color!"
Love the plan! I was at Ikea this weekend and realized just how awesome that chandelier is!
Courtney, I love your design board and the fresh colors for the space. I can't wait to see it all unfold! Thanks for linking up to Before & After!!
This is going to look great. I can't wait to see the finished product!
