I’m sharing a quick and easy update to one of our favorite vases. After adding brass detail to the bottom of it, I am wondering why I didn’t do it sooner. It actually balances out the shape of the vase much better and adds a bit of glam to our mantel. A while back I added brass detail to our frames. This is one of my favorite little details in our living room. I find that it doesn’t matter if you have large or small space to decorate, it’s more about the little details. I was staring up at our mantel one evening and realized that the brass is just what it needed. Here is a look at the chalkboard vase before I unleashed a can of gold spray paint on it. It’s funny, because now that I have added the brass bottom, the vase looks so naked in it’s former state. {This vase was a HomeGoods find back in the day. It was a clearance item with a horrendous paint job. I used chalkboard spray paint on it to transform it}. To add some brass and sass, I simply turned the vase upside down and wrapped blue painter’s tape around it. Nothing scientific about it nor did I measure. I just went with my gut on the size of the brass addition. Just remember to always use spray paint in a well venhilated area. It only took one coat of the Rustoleum Metalic Gold spray paint. Because it is summertime, the vase now reads, “And the living is easy!” Seems appropriate for this time of year. ………………..….a bit of brass … I tried to do an up close shot so you can see the line. It really is a nice clean paint line. The vase was a bit uneven to begin width so the texture is still there. I wish you could see this pretty lady at night. She glistens and adds the little glam I love each room to have. The other side of the mantel boats a stack of old books and rope vases I made. You can read more about the rope vases here. And I like to cut fresh greens from the yard to fill them. One of my all time favorite flowers is the gardenia. I wore one in my hair on my wedding day so they always bring back special memories. Could not love the smell of them more. One gardenia can fill the entire room with the yummy scent. I am so thankful they are in bloom right now. … One last look at the new sassy lady on our mantel. I am always so surprised with what one little detail can do to an object or space. I didn’t even realize the weight the vase needed at the bottom. The light and shiny brass does just that. Have you unleashed the gold spray paint on anything lately? Looking back, I have used it on our frames, a little side table, and now the vase! Oh, and I forgot about the book ends in my office pictured below. I wonder what’s next. If you are a neighbor of mine, you may want to avoid me if you see me wielding my gold spray paint can around town! And I apologize for not showing a full shot of the room. I am cooking up a little surprise and it’s not quite ready! enjoy your day!

Um, yes…I feel super trigger happy with the gold spray paint lately. Totally agree with you that seeing the before and after here makes the before look totally naked!

I love this idea! I believe that many design issues can be solved with a can of spray paint. I am going to try this. Did you use a chalk pen to write the phrase? My other question for you is what app do you use to write on your photos on the blog and Instagram? Thank you for the great idea!

How pretty! I love it Courtney! Like Janell, I'm looking around our house to see what I can get my hands on and get out the gold spray paint. A touch of gold here and there makes me happy.

I love how a little paint totally remade the vase. And it looks expensive! Very nice!

It is very glam! I love how it ties in with the other accessories in the room! I am loving the gold trend, too. I recently made a gold cake stand organizer for my jewelry, and it made it feel so much more elegant! Hope you're having a wonderful week, Miss Courtney!

Thanks for the motivation today. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by the big projects on my list when it is the little ones that make such a difference. I have been following your blog for about a year now and I really enjoy it, you have great taste. I recently started my own blog and have been really enjoying it. Although it has been nerve racking putting myself out there. Thanks again for all the inspiration.
