CGD Decorating Tip #1: Backing Your Bookcase

February 25, 2013 by Courtney 14 Comments

Sharing a tip over at our Casey Grace Design Facebook page today. Kristin just recently backed her built in bookcases and they look fantastic. They are in her home office and create such a beautiful feel to the space. While painting the actual bookcase is one option, she decided to get a little bit creative with the process. And it was super simple so you’ll want to keep it in mind.   IMG_9708 {sort of obsessed with the sconces mounted on the built ins} Here are the fun before and after photos that we all like to see.   IMG_9690_words …   IMG_9707_words … I am always a fan of adding some color to the back of bookcases. I think it adds warmth and dimension. There are so many great examples of that anytime you check out Pinterest, the design blogs, or the shelter magazines. To see how Kristin pulled this off in a really easy way, head on over for the behind the scenes look at the Casey Grace Facebook page. I will be back tomorrow with a DIY headboard that I am really excited to share with you. I created it for a client when we could not find anything ready made that would do the trick. If you follow on Instagram you may have seen me wielding power tools while wearing lace and pearls. Hey, who ever said DIY couldn’t be fashionable, too! Have a great day!

Ohhh, love that. So much more dramatic with the color. Brings out the colors and shapes of the objects on display! Very cool!

Wow, that really warms up the space. We have built in shelves like this on either side of our brick fire place. I am planning to paint them, but hadn't thought about backing them. They look great!

Love the difference – I saw this tip come through the CGD FB page, but honestly, it's too long to read on FB 🙁 And then I can't bookmark it for reference later on. Would love if you guys posted those tips here or on a CGD blog. Just a thought!
