Are you all familiar with the children’s book, ‘If You Give a Pig a Pancake’? There are many in the series and my kiddos have always loved them. Well, today is my version: If You Organize A Drawer. I was so proud of myself. I bounced off to Ikea and The Container Store in an all out quest to get organized before school begins next Monday. I wasn’t tackling much. A few kitchen drawers. A few bathroom drawers. So this is how it goes . . . If You Organize A Drawer … If you organize a drawer, you need something to put your stuff in. If you need something to put your stuff in, you drive to Ikea. If you go to Ikea, you spend way more than you need to because there are cute things there. When you get home, you open the children’s bathroom drawers and you purge. And if you purge, the children instantly want to keep everything that you find. You find an old sponge. And if you find an old sponge, the kids will want to use it. And if they want to use it, they will want to make a mess. But because you are a cool mom, you let them make a mess in another bathroom while you organize a drawer. And when you organize a drawer, pretty things fall into place and once again all is right with the world. But when all is right with the world, you can’t be happy with just that. If you organize one drawer, you want to organize another. And because the drawers look so good, you’ll want to organize under the bathroom sink. And when you want to organize under the bathroom sink, you’ll open the cabinet. And when you open the cabinet you’ll notice a towel is wet. Very very wet. When you notice the towel is wet and stinks, you’ll blame your five year old for playing with a towel, getting it wet, and shoving under the sink. What was he thinking? Once you take that towel out, you’ll find another wet towel. And if you find another wet towel you start to wonder. And when you start to wonder, you pull out nine bath towels that weigh the same as elephants. And when you pull out nine wet towels that weigh the same as elephants, you begin to wonder, “Could there be a leak?” And once you wonder, “Could there be a leak?” your blood immediately begins to boil and you go into, “Oh, crap” mode. And once you go into that mode . . . it’s on. And before you know it, you are ripping out a nasty cabinet and dreaming up a bathroom redesign. And once you dream up a bathroom redesign . . . .you’ll need to organize a drawer. Or two. The end. Oh, no. This is only the beginning. And so here we are. We busted out the cabinet {I will do a DIY post on how to minimize the water damage soon} and have a make shift bathroom. School starts next week and I need this baby in full working order. We propped up the counter top, fixed the leak and have a bucket just in case. I am no dummy! I must admit. About 30 minutes after the discovery I began getting excited. This is a builder grade bathroom that we hadn’t done much with and designing a new space is exciting. And then I went shopping and started pricing things out. Dang it. This was a perfectly great bathroom. Funny how builder grade suddenly looks glamorous. So over the next couple of weeks I will be gathering inspiration. I really need it. Keep you posted on the project. And be very weary of the next time you want to organize a drawer! … On a lighter note, I will be back tomorrow with the highlights of a party I recently threw! Can’t wait to share.

This post was so cute! Well until I found out you had a leak… Bummer!

Ha! Love the story, know the feeling of getting partly excited so that you can redo the space, then getting sucked back to reality of pricing! 😉 Good luck! Can't wait to see what you do!

Love the style of this post! Sorry to hear about the leak though, but I am excited to see what you do to your bathroom. I've been looking at the prices of bathroom items (everything from vanities to toilet roll holders) and have been shocked at the prices too. Why do some questionable quality vanities cost as much as large dressers? Crazy!
Hope there are no more leaks!

Ugh…Bad timing with school starting…but selfishly, I can't wait to see what you do with it 😉 We had a similar experience a couple of year's ago with our kids' bathroom. Here's the post I did on it. There are deals to be found out there! Good luck!!

You are so funny! Loved this post – can't wait to see what you decide to do!

So not fun! Be there, done that in our Master (however with our shower…X 3!!!) And, while those lovely little plastic rings are so easy to install…we have found they are also the first things to get bumped (and leak) under sinks. I try really hard to keep things stored under the sink away from them!!!

Very cute post but I am sorry that happened! We had a similar situation last year with one of our bathrooms. It wasn't in the budget at that time to be remodeling a bathroom but it ended up being one of our most fun and creative projects that we're done. Riley sure has a fun collection of pretty hair clips!

Your telling of this is great! – though I'm sorry about the unexpected remodel, blech. What timing with school about to start up again! If anyone can do it…it's you 🙂

This is the best of the worst circumstances! I am kinda wishing there was a link in both of our bathrooms so we can be "forced" to remodel. Our vanity literally has only 2 small narrow drawers. Not great for the kiddos!
Blessings,
Kayla

So sorry to hear about your leak! Untimely for sure but things like this keep life interesting! I can so relate to your thoughts on organizing. It is so much the "domino effect". I'm finally organized too and it's such a nice feeling!

These things always happen at the most inconvenient time (not saying there's ever a good time!). Can't wait to see what you do!

Oh my gosh I love this post – story of my life! Good thing you had the towels under there or the water damage could have been much worse.
