A Child’s Name

October 26, 2010 by Courtney 14 Comments

I have received so many lovely emails about my daughter’s name in her pink bedroom. Many of you have asked if I bought them on Etsy. I thought I would give a quick rundown of how I made the letters. IMG_6642IMG_6644 The whole reason for making them this way was to fill up the wall space. The letters were given to me when I was on bed rest with my daughter so they hold special meaning and we wanted to include them in her big girl room. Originally, they were a mix of pink, blue and white letters. On their own, the scale was all wrong so this was my answer to that problem. 1.  Painted the letters with some sample paint I had used elsewhere in the room for accents { I often pick up a $3.00 sample jar if I will only be needing a little bit}. This color is Sycamore Green from Restoration Hardware 2.  Lightly sanded the edges of the letters to make them distressed. 3.  The white frames and scrapbook paper are from Michael’s. Simply place the scrapbook paper over the glass instead of behind it. 4.  I used the hot glue gun to attach the letters to each one. 5.  I also used the hot glue gun to attach the bows to each frame. I used a tack to attach the bows to the wall. Hope this helps. Have you done something creative lately with your child’s name? Or their initials? I am looking for ideas for my son’s big boy room! Adorable! I am looking to do something over my younger daughter's bed in her room, this is a great idea. I also love Cassie's "Wordle" art she has done for her kids.

Hi Courtney, I love how that wall turned out in your daughter's room. The frames really fill out the space and give it more presence than the letters on their own! I made name posters for all my kids rooms and they love them! I also freehanded an H over my daughter's bed (for Hannah) but it's still a work in progress…I just have too many projects going on at once! I was kind of thinking of doing a monogram in our master bedroom but think I might be getting carried away with the letter thing!

Courtney, you absolutely could sell those on Etsy. They are adorable! I bet people would snatch them up- not everyone has the time or inclination to make those on their own and moms love putting their babies/kids' names on the wall. I have the letters to spell James and wasn't thrilled with what I came up with so they aren't hung- they are sitting on his bathroom counter!

Those look great! Since my boy is older (9), I knew he wouldn't be into the whole monogram thing…so I got one of those giant cardboard letters from Joanns. (You can see it in his room post) We haven't done anything with it yet, but I'll probably mod podge it in sports programs, or sheet music…something related to one of his activities. I also recently got smaller versions of the big F in his soccer number. He REALLY liked that!

    Love your girl's room!

I love the idea of the frames and scrapbook paper. Is there a reason that you put the paper in front of the glass instead of behind? Just wondering. Planning on doing something similar for my not yet born granddaughter.
