It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I am super excited to be a part of the Christmas Tour of Homes this year. We have been busy little elves getting our décor up and ready. We mixed things up from last year, and went for a very traditional Christmas. I don’t really decorate with red throughout the year, so it is such a welcome change to infuse the house with bright pops of the color. I went very simple using mostly ribbon and fabric. Enough chit chat, though! I know you just want to take a peek around. Welcome to our home . . . While I may not leave my boots outside for the season {girl actually needs to wear them!} I do plan to have them filled with fresh greens when we entertain. I think it’s a fun little addition. First got the idea when I went back to NYC for the Lowe’s event. Design Mom filled hers with gifts. Also a fun idea.
Let’s start from the very beginning. It’s a very good place to start {I may have just watched The Sound of Music with my little ones}! We don’t have a formal foyer so the house opens up into our living room where we have our tree. Unlike most years, I went very basic. We pulled out the red bulbs, added our family ornaments, and used a “Merry Christmas” garland.
The Noel pillow is from here and was a sweet gift from my sister. I love the little bit of gold it adds to the room.
This is the gold table I made here. It normally has books resting on it, so I just wrapped them up and added the plaid ribbon. Funny story. . . I wrapped up a book last year that I was half way through reading. I thought I had lost my mind. Looked everywhere for that darn book and found it after Christmas when I unwrapped them. Duh.
…
I fell in love with this plaid pillow. purchased one large pillow from Pottery Barn and cut it up. While I hated to take scissors to it, I really wanted to two smaller ones. My pillows are normally full of color. You can see my living room here. For the season, I decided to make envelope pillows for all of them. It really was so easy. Outside of the plaid pillow, I only spent $10 on fabric and was able to transform the whole room for Christmas.
My DIY Brass Cornered frames are sporting a little striped ribbon for the holidays.
One of my favorite parts of Christmas is pulling out all of our special books. These were given to me by my dear friend Catherine during a trying time and I love having them on display.
Gold vinyl paper and my silhouette made this mirror project super easy. You can see more of the mantel here.
…
…
We have never had stocking holders and our mantel is crazy shallow. This year, I made my own. They cost me all of $4 and you can check out the DIY for those here. They took only five minutes to make.
The advent calendar is a huge tradition in our home. This year’s was really easy to throw together. I showed you that earlier and the kiddos have been so enjoying it this time around. They are at great ages for all of the activities. Oh, and can you tell I adore stripes? Even my children are wearing them! And now onto the kitchen. I backed the cabinets a while back and the green lends itself nicely to this time of year. I hung the same wreaths last year and kept it the same this year. The ribbon is from Hobby Lobby and the wreaths are from Trader Joes. The fresh wreaths add such a nice smell to our kitchen. Other than that, we have lit garlands above the cabinets. That space is normally empty.
…
Do you need to warm up your coffee yet? Let’s take a walk over to the stairs. I kept it very very simple this year. Just a low profile garland and satin ribbon. I heart satin ribbon. A couple of red bows and we are good to go.
…
Welcome to the dining room. Overall, this is a very neutral space. I designed that intentionally so that I could really add any color when I entertain. This season the pops of red are a fun change.
I may or may not have added red to my chairs for Christmas. My husband thought I was nuts when I mentioned it. Then he saw them and loved them. It was really super simple. I busted out some red velvet ribbon {bout it at Hobby Lobby for $5} and my glue gun. The glue gun does not hurt the paint on the chairs. It comes right off. I just cut the strips to fit the inset of each side of the chair.
When I updated my chairs, I added pulls to the back of them. You can check that out here. It’s fun to add things to the chairs during the holidays. Burlap and a bit of red berries did the trick this year.
These cute rustic trees are from Target. I bought them for Sara, the client from HomeStretch. I loved them and knew I needed them for my own house. I think they are the only thing I purchased besides fabric this year. The table was set with things we already had and use all of the time.
…
The plaid fabric is from Hobby Lobby. I didn’t even bother hemming it. It is simply folder over and draped on the table.
Our bar cart got a little bit of Christmas love as well with the red straws and a bowl of gold ornaments.
The red pillow is another slipcover I made for the season.
…
And that’s it my friends. I hope you enjoyed your walk around our home. I wish I could hand you a warm hot chocolate on your way out. Wishing you and your families a really wonderful Christmas. This time passes so quickly and the what I love most is just curling up in this room with my little crew. We spend a ton of time in this space and the Christmas season always adds a certain kind of magic.

LOVE your home, Courtney!! All of the red is beautiful—I fee like I don't get to see it that much in blogland since all the neutral/cool colors are so trendy, but seeing this reminds me that it truly makes a home look like Christmas. 🙂 Now you've got me wanting to make pillow covers with red in them for the season!
Your home looks gorgeous! I don't have red in my home at all either, but I'm like you in that I love to add it for the holiday season. You are so crafty tjhough with all of the things you whip up for very little cost. The pillows really do make such a big impact! Also, your photos are fantastic. Have fun enjoying the season with your little ones.
I love all of the traditional touches this year. So warm and cozy! Can't wait to have a sip of hot cocoa {or wine!} there soon!! xo
Oh how pretty!!!! I love the pops of red throughout – its festive without being overwhelming. Where did you find the skinny garland for your stairs? I realized last night that the garland I have is too full (who knew that was possible!!) and am on the hunt for a new, more minimal style.
Beautiful, Courtney! Enjoy your festive home with your family!
Wow! Your home is stunning! I love the boots 🙂 And I love that your son's pjs matched too. You thought carefully about every little detail and it really shows. LOVE it!!!
It's amazing to see what a lot of ribbon and a couple of pillows can do for a new holiday color scheme. I love how you filled your boots! Very pretty.

I especially liked the little touches – a sprig of green here, red striped straws there…very inviting. Thanks for sharing your home. You have inspired me to get going on mine. The birth of a new grandson put me a bit behind and I haven't even started decorating my home yet. The boots with greenery was just so adorable!
