Client Living Room Design Board

June 23, 2011 by Courtney 13 Comments

Laura recently contacted me and wanted help with her living room. She was wonderful to work with and the best part about it was that she wanted to embrace bold color. I love that. The family is super fun, young, and energetic. They want the room to reflect that. Here are a couple of before shots of the room: laura1 laura2 laura3 The room is very long and narrow and has been a challenge to design for her. I began by re-orientating the room away from the fireplace. Although a fireplace seems like a natural focal point, when the room is very long and narrow it is best to turn the focus to one of the opposing walls to make it seem wider. The room also hosts very high ceilings so we came up with some creative solutions for that as well with the use of mirrors and gallery walls. Here is a look at the new layout with the furniture and room drawn to scale. layout While maintaining the tan backdrop, we incorporated a palette of navy, teal and orange. Stacking mirrors above one of the console tables will help in working with the high ceilings. The Expedit shelves will be backed with navy blue paint to help them pop off the wall. She expressed a love for the blue ikat fabric so the chair was a perfect way to tie that into the room. The fun striped rug is from Dwell Studio. mood board It was such a blast to work with a client that wasn’t afraid of all the color! So much fun. She promises to update us with photos as the room comes together!  ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. I love all the bright colours you've chosen. A great combination and of course, that Chiang Mai fabric is always a hit!

Wonderful job! The colors work so well together. I love the idea of stacking the mirrors, to work with the height of the ceiling. 🙂 Great job!

What a great board – the colors are really nice together and should bring a lot of character to that room. And I like seeing how a different layout will affect the room.
