Introducing the newest member of our family! Our brass giraffe. We have yet to name him. Or her. Not sure.
THE GRACEFUL GIRAFFE
“The giraffe symbolizes the broad meaning of the word “grace”. While some see grace in human terms as one’s elegance or charm, for others it’s divine in origin and represents that indispensable gift for the development, improvement and expansion of one’s character and the ability to rise above the negative events of time.” via surviving your serengeti So it’s only fitting I tell you why there is now a brass giraffe in our living room. They are truly stunning creatures. My husband and I have and continue to see the giraffe pop up in our lives. It’s one of those odd things but something that makes you take note. We seriously stumble over them everywhere. {not real ones of course. That could be awkward}. We finally looked up what some believe the giraffe symbolizes. It was then that I realized it was for a reason. While facing some pretty major negative events over the last year, we have worked very hard to rise above and to look for the good. It’s not always easy. Perhaps this little brass giraffe will help us to remember to keep doing so amidst all that life can entail. When I stumbled upon this little guy in the dollar section of Target I knew I needed to go where so many DIY bloggers before me have gone. Do you remember Cassie and her darling brass animals? So I whipped out the spray paint and got all Jonathan Adler on this bad boy. ……………………our new giraffe I like that this sweet giraffe is now a great reminder to us and hopefully my husband and I will continue to look for the good. {For styling and lining of the built in you can go here} …………. Which one Wednesday will return next week with the next choice in our master bath. We are actually packing and getting ready for a much needed end of summer vacation!

That little guy is too adorable. Love that you painted it gold. I love giraffes too. I went to Africa right out of college and my family teased me about buying mostly giraffes. Very interesting about the meaning behind those creatures.

Squee!!!! My heart is all a-flutter right now! I adore this little guy! And for a buck and some paint, you created an amazing transformation. I think it's only fitting that you and the hubs treat yourselves to a safari so you can see them in their natural habitat. Sign me up to babysit. 🙂

So, so cute! I love that and if I didn't have half a million animal-related-pieces floating around my house already, I'd go pick one up for myself, too!

We're big giraffe lovers over here too! My son's nursery had quite a few of them actually. Love your gold giraffe – you can't go wrong with a little gold spray paint!

The giraffe is the cherry on top of that fabulous bookcase! He looks fabulous & the symbolism is wonderful. Hope things are getting better for you & your husband!

Well of course it's adorable, but I love the meaning behind it even MORE! Every time you guys look at that giraffe, it will remind you of grace. Fabulous. Plus it's an adorable decor choice. Win win! And by the way… of course we broke out safari animals on the same day- elephants and giraffes are BFF! Wait… if the giraffe is grace… what's the big fat elephant, rolling around in the water mean? HA!

I love the meaning behind your giraffe! I have seen a lot of projects where plastic animals are being spray painted to make some really amazing accessories! He looks like he is worth a lot more than a dollar! 🙂 I also checked out Diane's blog that you got your bookcase idea from….she has an amazing site too!

The paint job was exactly what was needed to take that predictable little giraffe to new heights. Great idea!
Keep writing…

Oh how funny! I spray painted a mason jar yesterday with the same exact paint 🙂 Love this little guy's new look!

He/she is adorable. I totally lean towards a she though. And she for sure needs a name. If I named an ostrich print, you for sure need a name for your sweet gold giraffe!

I am so ready to hop on the spray paint a toy animal bandwagon, but I never would have thought of gold. It's my favorite I have seen thus far!

I love this idea! I have an elephant I got as a gift from India and, while it looks nice in a burgundy-red colour, I think it would look even better painted something else (now the problem is deciding on the colour!) Thanks for sharing!

Very cute- love your ideas! Just wondering, where did you get your owl bookends? I love owls! Jill
