{DIY} Quick & Easy Brass Bookends

November 15, 2012 by Courtney 24 Comments

The other day I mentioned that I have a new white Expedit in the house. I am loving every minute of styling this piece of heaven. Heaven because it is all mine! I have moved my decorating and design books to a new spot and have some easy DIY brass bookends to show you. bookends I can spend hours pouring over some of my favorite design and DIY books. My latest addition to the collection is Young House Love by John and Sherry. A couple who is living the dream if you ask me!!! If you are looking to jump into some DIY projects around your home, this book is an awesome place to start. Congrats to John and Sherry for creating such a fantastic book.  IMG_0160   John and Sherry of Young House Love created these brass bookends and I knew I had to recreate them. Super simple and such a cute impact. They sprayed their lids as well which is really cute. To be honest, I had tossed my lids long ago since I normally use mason jars for flowers. Here is how they started out: IMG_9665 cocktail party mason jars Do you remember when I showed you these? My sister and I threw my mom a birthday party in her back yard and we sprayed mason jars this pretty teal color. I have had them floating around my home and up in the cupboard. No one really needs ten teal jars laying around so it was a quick coat of brass spray paint to give these babies a new life. I placed rocks in the bottom of each one to give them the necessary weight.   IMG_0158   IMG_0146 I like the little touch of brass against the glossy white Expedit. I have to say that I am loving every minute of making this little space all my own. I am so used to designing everything in our home to be for the whole family. Not gonna lie! Mama digs having her own space! What about you? Have you carved out a little spot for yourself?

Love your expedit! And how cute are those jars? I think this is another book to add to my long wish list. By the way, loved your Avery post. Your work space is so pretty and organized – not one bit surprised. 🙂

These look so pretty! We have an Expedit shelf in our home and we LOVE it! We actually use it to store all of my pretty dishes right off of our kitchen. Very handy!

I hear ya on the loving your own little space! I'm pretty sure I have a little expedit cube shelf that's all mine (with my mirror and baubles stored on it) and it is my little slice of heaven (c: Those bookends are *brilliant*…I've been needing some for baby girl's bedroom for a while and I could *totally* accomplish this DIY (c:

Love this idea! I have a crate of small mason jars that I planned to can with this summer, and never did, but I might need to use a few for this!
