DIY Striped Chargers

April 20, 2015 by Courtney 18 Comments

How was your weekend? Our was jam packed with baseball, company and swim parties. It was glorious and one of those weekends that you hate to say good bye to. But this week should be just as busy and fun. There is a lot on the docket and a trip planned for the end of the week. Today I am excited to share with you a 12 Months of Martha project. As you know I am cookoo for the Vintage Décor Paint. I used it for this project and I also transformed my coffee table with it. This time I gave some old chargers new life with a simple and fresh stripe detail. chargers from a thoughtful place You already know I am obsessed with stripes. Almost every room it our home boasts some sort of stripe. I had these silver chargers laying around. My guess is that most of you have chargers from year ago. Even if you don’t, you can pick some up at local craft stores for about $2 a pop. chargers supplies SUPPLIES:

  • Martha Stewart Vintage Décor Paint {Sailor Blue}
  • Martha Stewart paint brush
  • Painter’s tape
  • Chargers

chargers tape atp Step One: Tape off three stripes. Be sure you have a clean surface prior to taping. I did not measure but used the middle of the plate as a guide. Use the wide tape so you just need to tape off three stripes. Just be sure you push down near the rim of the charger so no paint seeps under. chargers tape off atp You may want to begin with placing the first piece of tape across the middle of the charger. Once you have your three strips of tape in place you are ready to paint. I taped off all chargers at once and then moved on to painting. chargers painting stripes atp I can’t recommend this paint brush enough. If you use the Vintage Décor paint I think it’s a must have. The glorious thing about this paint is that it pretty much works on any surface and does not require any prep work. Step Two: Dip the paint brush into the paint very lightly and paint with nice light strokes. You do not need much paint. Apply 1-2 coats depending on how solid you want you stripe. I only did one coat on each charger. chargers stripe atp chargers fresh stripes Step Three: Remove the tape immediately. As soon as you finish painting the chargers, gently remove the tape. You may want helping hands to hold the charger while you remove the tape. The tape will be messy so be sure to have a trash can or paper plate near by to immediately stick the used tape to. This will avoid unnecessary messes. And don’t fret if a stripe isn’t perfect . . . chances are your dinner plate will cover it! And of course these are not to put food directly on but rather your dinner plate. Then sit back and enjoy the pretty new stripes. Such an easy way to give your table more pattern! charger a thoughtful place chargers from atp I am crazy for these chargers now. I only painted one light coat to keep that vintage feel. If you do two coats you would have a nice solid stripe. And of course you can never go wrong with mixing stripes and flowers {just like my living room}. chargers cookies atp Our friends brought these cookies to dinner this weekend! Amazing. Especially with the salted caramel ice cream they brought. Holy cow! chargers stripes The floral print is actually one of my scarves. Scarves are an awesome way to add print and color to your table. I just used it over a white tablecloth. The blue glasses were a wedding gift {Crate & Barrel} back in the day and I have loved them ever since. chargers with floral atp chargers a thoughtful place similar blouse | jeans | necklace  I sort of want to stripe every set of chargers I own now! I have a feeling you’ll be seeing some gold and white striped chargers around these parts very very soon! If you do tackle this, I promise it’s very very simple and the paint is a dream to work with. My chargers are SO old and they really need a pick-me-up so this is great.

    But I must say that my favorite part of your table is that beautiful scarf.

    Wow – that is such a creative idea. I am so not a crafty person, but I always love seeing what you come up with in terms of décor. You really have a knack for style!

    Have a great week!

    The stripes and floral are fun together and the bright colors! Love this idea Courtney and I think I'll be whipping out some old chargers and doing pink and white for an upcoming baby shower. Your cute outfit is perfect with your table. Great bracelets!!

    I love the shape of that brush, but just read the 2 reviews on Amazon that both say bristles fall out like crazy. That's been the problem with other brushes for me, too, and I just can't seem to find the perfect round brush! Do you have that problem with the bristles?
