Easy Activities To Do With Kids

July 29, 2013 by Courtney 13 Comments

Like most children, my kiddos love hands on activities and doing crafts with me. We always try to foster a sense of imagination and allow enough time in the day to just draw, doodle, create or make. A while back, our wonderful Grandma Sue sent the children their first Kiwi Crate and they absolutely loved it. Well, this summer, Kiwi Crate sent us a box of activities to do with the kids. Once again, it didn’t disappoint. We dove into the box of craft supplies the other day and my children made boats to race. kidactivities ………………………. craft time … Here is a look at the box when we opened it up. This one came with two separate activities to do. We have saved the second one to do this week! IMG_2272 … There is nothing better than seeing little hands at work. IMG_2280 IMG_2283   … IMG_2293 IMG_2296 … You can check out Kiwi Cate here. The crate gets delivered to your door each month. Might be a fun idea to mention to Grandma or Grandpa to give the kiddos as a gift. I know they are always looking for gift ideas. And I love that these are experiences rather than toys that pile up. Can you relate?! Here is why I love doing Kiwi Crate activities with my children:

  • The directions are REALLY simple and easy to follow {my 7 year old can handle it alone}
  • Everything you need is included
  • The science behind the activities is explained {should it include science}
  • There are ideas for extension activities
  • The kids are using their hands as well as their minds
  • It’s fun
  • The kids look forward to it

rudder adjusting the rudder to see what happens when the boat sets sale This is not a sponsored post, I just really love Kiwi Crate and so do my kiddos. This kit above was provided but we are excited to order more so that we can look forward to doing these activities together. … ………………….. cupcake wars … Banana Split Cupcakes bakers royale Another random activity we love doing is re-creating cupcake wars. Have you seen that show? If not, it’s basically teams competing to make the tastiest cupcakes with the most original decorations, flavors and display. So if you are looking for something fun to do you may want to try this out. We bake cupcakes together {out of the box, people. You know I am not a baker}. Then I give the kids fun items to decorate their cupcakes with. It is always different and we often do a theme. Once that is done, they draw up plans and build a display for their cupcakes. And nothing major. . . but one might decorate a shoebox and put them on that. Or they have asked me to take a cake stand out and they add their own embellishments. It’s always super fun and they love using a countdown clock in the end. There is something about hearing, “5-4-3-2-1” that they love. cupake Hope you are inspired to get creative with your children or grandchildren if you are starting to hit the mid summer slump! It’s always nice to share fun and different ideas. I would love to hear what you are up to to get those creative minds going. make it a fun day

    What lovely ideas! Do you think Kiwi crates would be good for older kids? I've looked at them in the past but my oldest is 9 and I worry that the crafts may be too young for her……..

    I have the same question as Shannon. I was thinking it would be a good activity for the kids at a family reunion, but we have some in the 8-10 range.

    Also, I love the cupcake wars idea. You should post a picture of one of their creations!

    A website with other great craft ideas can be found at: http://www.kinderart.com/crafts/ – of course it involves more work on your part – finding all the supplies, etc. 🙂
