We celebrated my dad’s birthday this weekend at our house. It was a really special evening full of laughter, yummy food {everyone pitched in}, and great college football. While the outside of the house reflected more of a birthday theme, I kept the inside looking like fall. I combined the idea Cassie had and the lantern inspiration to make a simple table design. I used a package of leaves I had picked up from The Dollar Tree. I tied the napkins with twine and tucked two into each napkin. I also used them to surround the candle in one of the jars. The colorful rimmed plates are from Crate and Barrel while the runner was picked up at World Market a while back. SCIENCE LESSON! After setting the table, I looked over at my glass urns and realized they were foggy. It was about five minutes before the party was to start so I quickly unloaded the pumpkins and washed them {thinking I had failed to do so}. An hour later they were foggy again and I realized I had quite the science experiment on my hands. So the kids loved hearing us debate about how the pumpkins emit nitrogen. That is the theory we came up with . . . any science expert out there know more? Of course this all led to a discussion about how all plants give off oxygen during photosynthesis. Such a nerdy family. I took the lids off and set them next to the jars. Clear and pretty glass containers at last! So the moral of this story is to put your pumpkins in lanterns that can breathe or in an open vase like Cassie did! Have you set a simple fall table yet? I love incorporating the warm colors of the season and those sweet mini pumpkins. Have a great day.

Looks gorgeous as usual!! I am in love with it all – that runner, the leaves, the cake plate. I am filing this in my inspiration folder for Thanksgiving.

Your table looks beauty-full Courtney! I love that the colors in your dining room lend themselves to any season! The runner works perfectly in there.
How wacky about the foggy jars….I do know that lemons & limes that I like to stack in glass jars go bad quickly. I'm always on the look out for some really good fake ones! (Maybe fake gourds next year?)

What a lovely table!! I love the rimmed plates.
And now I understand why I found half of my mini pumpkins with fuzz and squishy spots…I guess they need LOTS of room to breathe!

Simple and *gorgeous*!!! I love that runner! The pattern doesn't scream fall but the colors are so perfect, I love that! And those centerpieces are so easy, but they look amazing! This is why I love you, Courtney, your creativity gets me every time!

Oh you are so very sweet in preparing things for your daddy's birthday! He's so lucky enough to have a special daughter like you. But anyway, I like the table set up you made here as well as the pumpkin that went into debate!! Very funny but still interesting. Somehow, you might want to visit one of my favorite cheap tablecloths store on the net. Their items are really fabulous and are really perfect if you were having a big party to throw out.
