Faux Marble Countertops: Easy Transformation

November 4, 2013 by Courtney 33 Comments

Happy Monday! I am so excited to share a home improvement project we did last week! I had seen this inspiring post and knew I had to use the marble contact paper in my house. While nothing beats the look of real stone, I am so impressed with this and love how it transformed our hallway linen closet. It makes me smile every time I glance down the hallway or walk by. And the pink feminine touches are making me pretty darn happy too!   fauxmarble This paper was so easy to use. It has a nice weight to it and I was able to peel it up and reposition it when I was slightly off. That made all the difference in the world. I also gave our knobs a makeover with gold paint, but I might just replace them. I am not sure I am sold on the shape. More to come! IMG_4676 … IMG_4681 … Here is a shot of the plain countertop before the marble paper. linen7 hallmarble Here is a shot from farther back so you can see more of the hallway. I think the marble goes really well with all of the millwork and offers a dressier feel to the space. hallway … IMG_4694 …   fauxmarblecounter You may remember this post about our linen closet. The gold polka dot paper was a DIY project and this closet hosts our guest linens as well as necessities they made need when staying with us. linencloset Tying the sheets up and labeling them makes it so much easier to know what sheet set it is and a lot faster when getting ready for guest. fullsheets … IMG_4728 Because of the nice lip on the countertop, it made it really easy to fold the paper under and smooth it out.   IMG_4724 So what do you think? We also put this marble paper on a shelf in another built-in in our master bedroom and are loving it. While nothing takes the place of real marble stone, I am pretty darn giddy about this transformation. I keep looking for other places to use it in our home! It’s the little things that make a big difference and for us this is one of them. Enjoy your day!

    This looks beautiful!

I bought some contact paper a few months ago and used it to cover the printing on a plastic litter pail I keep in the laundry room. I added a chalkboard label, too.

For me, working with the contact paper was not easy. I had a LOT of trouble trying to keep bubbles out of the paper. Just a warning to anyone trying a project with contact paper.

My litter bucket finally turned out OK but it was more work than I expected.

We used marble contact paper to recover our kitchen counters when we moved into our home 4 years ago. Our counters were in poor shape and we didn't want to replace them immediately. We ended up leaving the contact paper on for quite some time, and it held up really well. It still remains one of the most-searched topics on my blog: http://lauraingallswannabe.blogspot.com/2010/09/kitchen-counter-revamp-on-budget.html

wow! this looks great! I have a 12 foot long counter in our new basement. maybe I should try this before replacing the countertop. the edges are sharp, though, and I don't know how that would look. your curved edge looks very nice.

Ok, I'm seriously dying over this. Hence why it took me so long to comment. I'm wondering how durable it is and if it could work on my laundry room counters……

Looks great! Did you seal the countertop with anything? Would consider using it in a bathroom, but I’m thinking a sealant (envirotex?) would be needed to protect against moisture.
