Do you remember when I put together s’more packets to watch the fireworks last year? We enjoy fun festivities all day long on the Fourth and I find that it’s really fun to set aside a special something to enjoy during the fireworks show. Typically they are pretty late and the kids are wiped. But they love sitting back in their lawn chairs for the neighborhood show and enjoying a final dessert or snack for the night. This year I thought it would be fun to use the new gift box tool from Martha Stewart. You guys! This thing is genius. You’ll see why.
I may or may not be addicted to making these boxes now. My head is spinning with ideas: party favors, teacher gifts, birthday surprises . . . the possibilities are endless.
Supplies:
- Martha Stewart Gift Box Tool
- Cardstock
- Decorative paper and stickers for embellishment
- Double sided tape
- Cutting board
Directions:
There really is nothing to this. The box maker {best invention ever} has easy to follow directions. I made one using a piece of computer paper just to practice. Actually, I made two practice boxes. After that it was go-time. The only tip is that you want to place your paper on a cutting board and stand over it. I felt that standing up allowed you to have enough pressure to push down on the cutter. The nice things is that the gift box maker allows you to make three different size boxes. The ones I created are the medium-sized pillow boxes. I chose to wrap each of mine in a strip or two of scrapbook paper. I also added fun stickers which I picked up at Michaels.
Tip: Try to find double-sided sticky tabs like these. They come in one long strip so you can cut it to any length you want. You place it on the paper like I did in the photo above and pull back the wax paper. They are great for keeping things like this permanently taped together.
But here is the thing! The sky is the limit. All you need is 12 x 12 cardstock. I told the kiddos that we can now make these whenever we give a gift card. How fun to personalize the outside for a teacher or friend. They really are crazy fast to make and I love that I can design them however I want.
I think the children will enjoy their late night cookies from their Fourth of July treat boxes. You could fill them with popcorn, candy, goldfish, animal crackers. . . you name it. And the whale stickers were just too cute to pass up. I was thinking it would be cute as a party favor with a note that sign, “I had a whale of a good time!”
If you have anyone in your life that is creative and likes to make things, I really do think this Gift Box Tool would be an awesome gift. And I don’t say that about too many craft supplies. This one is a well priced and super useful.
So what do you think? Do you see why I can’t stop making these? I sort of love them. Hope it’s given you some fun inspiration for the Fourth. You can check out last year’s S’more Fun for Fireworks here.
