Halloween Treats {Zebra Chic Cookies}

October 16, 2012 by Courtney 15 Comments

First of all, I just want to thank everyone for your sweet sentiments yesterday. I was excited to share my news and you all made it so fun to do so. Today I am sharing some Halloween Treats I made. I will make more as the day draws near, but wanted to show you how to make them. I don’t go crazy for Halloween, so a few little things here and there are all we need. This is a fun way to dress up your Oreo cookies!   zebrachic a thoughtful place   Start with a basic Oreo cookie. Haven’t had these in years so this what a total walk down memory lane. I used to love these as a child. IMG_9730 Now I know I live under a rock sometimes, but hello!!! Why haven’t I seen these before?  My hat is off to the folks at Wilton for busting out with this brilliant idea. Sugar Sheets! Oh, yes. They come in different colors and you can punch your own design or you can pull a Courtney and grab the ready made zebra circles. Yes, please. Am I the only one doing the happy dance with these cuties?  I promise I am not being paid to say any of this. Wilton has never head of me but I am loving these babies. The possibilities for decorating cakes and cupcakes are endless. IMG_9723 I used the Wilton Candy melts. I have a setting on my microwave for melting chocolates. I use a handful and set it to melt 4 oz and it always works really well. If you have that setting, it makes life much easier. Once the candy melts are nice and soft, I dropped a spoon full onto each cookie and spread it out to cover the entire top. IMG_9731   The precut circles were too big for the cookies, so I just cut them down. You need to apply them to wet icing or candy ASAP so I pressed them on and then added the orange sprinkles immediately. IMG_9739 Once they were dry, I could easily shake off the access sprinkles. Halloween treats in less than five minutes! You can’t beat that.   zebrachic a thoughtful place A few tied up in a clear bag and big black bow will be what we will hand out to teachers and neighbors.   zebrachic a thoughtful place   And after dinner we did the taste taste. Super yummy. She sugar sheets are not as sweet tasting as you would expect. They are easy to eat. Believe me, the filling on an Oreo is much sweeter! zebrachic a thoughtful place What about you? Have you conjured up any ghoulish treats for Halloween? Do you go big in your house? Would love to hear. Enjoy your day and go check out those sugar sheets if you haven’t already done so. They sort of rock. h a v e   a   s w e e t   d a y

    I've seen these in Michael's and always wonder if they work well. More importantly, how do they taste? 🙂

    Such a fun idea! I will have to make these for the little girl who comes by to walk our dog. I had not eaten an Oreo in years and they were giving samples of Joe's Pumpkin Faced Oreos at Trader Joes and of course a whole package then ended up in our cart! Your photos are beautiful Courtney.

    So fun and festive. Usually I approach a recipe with a sense of reluctance because they list ingredients and tools I neither have nor have ever heard of. This on the other hand, is a go. This would be so fun to make with kids and it's so easy. Great idea 🙂 Stop by whenever you can and have a wonderful day
