Hello, Holiday Haven Series

December 2, 2010 by Courtney 18 Comments

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  button1                        What’s Your Holiday Haven? This time of year is just so much fun. There are parties to attend, recitals to be on time for, Christmas cards to write out, baking, decorating, lighting, gift giving . . . the list goes on and on. So I wanted to inspire all of us to simmer down and take a little break. This time of year is so incredibly special and it’s fleeting. I am determined to not get “caught up” in the craziness and to stop to enjoy. So to help me do that, I have enlisted some amazingly talented bloggers who will shed some light on maintaining peace and sanity during the holiday season. I hope you are inspired to stop and enjoy just a little bit more than usual. Kicking off the Holiday Haven series is not only a fantastic blogger, but a friend, as well. I am so excited to hear what Megan from Honey We’re Home has to say about this time of year.

Hi all!  I’m Megan from Honey We’re Home!  If you’re reading this post, then I count us already friends because any friend of Courtney’s is a friend of mine!  I love her blog too and have read every single post!  I’m happy to be sharing with you one of the ways I take a little break to relax during the holidays.  I absolutely love the holidays- it’s my most favorite time of the year.  I especially enjoy all the decorating, baking, looking for that perfect gift for family and friends, and just the energy and spirit of the season.  In the evenings, once dinner and dishes are done and baby James is sound asleep, I love to curl up on our sofa and relax a bit with my husband, while enjoying this: image I make it at home with a little help from these two: image image This is the yummiest hot cocoa around!  I simply heat a cup of milk (skim or 1%) in the microwave for two minutes, then add two tablespoons of the Ghirardelli mix.  Top it off with a little lot of whip cream and you have an instant sweet treat! And during the holidays, I like to pull out my special Christmas mugs.  I’m particularly fond of the big ones Starbuck’s sells, but I try to wait until they go on sale.  I’ve got my eye on a bright red one now! image   image   Thanks for taking the time to share your haven with us today, Megan! Scrumptious. What you about you? Do you have a special treat that you like during this time of year?

Great post Courtney and Megan! That hot chocolate looks really yummy. This time of year I love hot cider…and as luck would have it they are now making K-cups for my Keurig! We can't keep them in the house (Kate loves it too).

I would have to say that hot chocolate is the one thing I love this time of year! I go with the diet packet kind, I KNOW, but it's only 25 calories : )

The Ghirardelli mix and Reddi Wip might have to make an appearance though, cuz it looks UHmazing!

My special treat seems kind of silly but I always go to the mall by myself at Christmas time. I love to take my time either window shopping or real shopping. Of course, I have to buy a cinnamon pretzel too.

I like what Jennifer said about just going out by herself and treating herself to a pretzel. Isn't it funny how an hour or two alone can feel so blissful sometimes? Our grocery store has a Starbuck's cafe inside and sometimes before shopping, I sit there with a coffee for 15-20 minutes and read a magazine. Heaven. Shhhh- don't tell Jimmy why it takes me so long!

Great series, Courtney! I'm with Megan on the hot cocoa!! I grew up going to the Ghiradelli Chocolate Factory and what a treat. Their chocolate is so yummy. I think I'm going to pull out a Christmas mug, light a fire tonight and curl up with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book.

Hot cocoa is definitely the best, haven't tried the Ghiradelli yet, but considering they make the best chocolate around…duh! (c: Here's to burned tongues and happy tummies!

I love this idea for a post series! I'm in the market for a new hot cocoa and I've never tried the Ghiradelli hot chocolate. I'll have to pick it up next time I'm at the store. Thanks, Megan for the recommendation!
