We served up a pretty sweet celebration the other day. Our son, now five, had big news to celebrate! He had been diagnosed with a chocolate allergy when he was very young. Chocolate! I know! We have tried so very hard to make chocolate a non-event in our home. That has meant no brownies, chocolate chip cookies or any ice cream with anything chocolate. While he has other food allergies, this one just seemed like such a bummer. So we really didn’t want to oversell what he was missing. And the kid savored vanilla like nobody’s business. But at long last, we got great news from the doctor that he had in fact out grown this particular allergy! Amen!!! Chocolate is back, people. It’s back in a big way. So I surprised our little man with an after school ice cream party. I found these cute napkins and cups at Target in their dollar section. I think they are so cute and would be great for parties. . . cute for ice cream toppings, too. Anyway, back to the boy!!! Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough it is! … HE GOES IN FOR A BITE … … HE TASTES IT . . . … HE LIKES IT ! And sister was loving it, too. I give this girl mad credit. She has never talked up the amazingness of chocolate and has always been so darn sweet with G and his allergies. Sweet soul, that girl. It’s safe to say we finished the entire thing. And survey says . . . He likes it! We were even able to serve up a chocolate cake for Papa’s birthday that he could finally eat. And now he is like a kid in the candy store! He saw hot cocoa and realized he can have it! And I am thrilled as we have never had chocolate chip cookies in this house {well. . . maybe once or twice} but now I can make hot chocolate chip cookies for the kids like my mom used to do for us. Looking forward to it. And to all the sweet ones out there that suffer from food allergies, I sympathize. We are not out of the woods on others, but consider this a super fun turn of events. Thanks for letting us share. Other celebration we have had around here: Sweet 7th Birthday | Pop Rocks Party | Bake Shoppe Party Haagen-Dazs has chosen us to be brand influencers on their "Moments for Me" campaign. Share the moments you cherish in your everyday life using hashtag #HDMoment, and Haagen Dazs might share it over on their tumblr page. Häagen-Dazs and the “Moment for Me” campaign provided us with the ice cream, but the giggles and memories are ours to keep!!

Yay for chocolate. I hope he outgrows other allergies, too. My favorite ice cream flavor (and DQ blizzard) is chocolate chip cookie dough. 🙂

Yay for him. We really don't do a lot of chocolate in our household due to our youngest's migraines. We too thought she had an allergy to chocolate when she was little, turns out it was the casein in the products, not the chocolate. Here's hoping he'll outgrow some of the others.

I was once allergic to chocolate too! Although I no longer am, I still avoid it mosstly. I've gotten to the point that I don't like chocolate, unless it's in oreo form. As in cookies & cream ice cream. I actually eat the blonde oreos. I don't even like the smell of chocolate anymore. I'm sure it's a mental thing because I had to avoid it for so long.
