I hope you had a great weekend. We spent a ton of time outdoors and it was great for the soul. Also celebrated my dear mom’s birthday and so thankful that we live close enough to do so. Turning to design news, I could hardly sleep last night because I have been so excited to kick off the Just Four Things series with the announcement of which room I will be making over. In case you missed the introduction, Just Four Things is a series I have done in the past where I show the transformation of a space with, well, just four things! While it’s not a complete makeover of the bedroom, it’s a way to kick start a brand new bedroom and show readers that with a few changes, you can really create an entirely different feel to a room.
I also want to thank everyone who submitted their spaces for consideration. Holy cow! I was truly blown away with the interest, the lovely emails, and the amount of rooms I received. We just may have to do another room after this one. I wish I could help each and every one of you. So without further ado, the room that I will be transforming with Just Four Things is . . .
Who is the owner? Meredith and her husband live with their two young children in St. Louis, MO. They have been in their home just over a year and have enjoyed making over the house room by room. They have yet to tackle this space and with the exception of the bed, have all hand-me-down furniture. They are ready to put an adult spin on this space and make it a lovely retreat to enjoy at the end of a long work day. Meredith’s enthusiasm is infectious and she is totally on board with making the much needed changes.
A bit about the space: The bedroom has a double door entry and one wall of windows. The room is quite spacious which will be challenging in light of changing just four things. The good news is that they were already planning to paint before I showed up on the scene so we will be doing four things in addition to the painting.
A possible plan: This room has beautiful light and great space. The bed is gorgeous and they are fortunate to have nice light carpeting. The room now needs personality and life. I envision infusing color and print in the space while still keeping it a relaxing retreat.
Reader Takeaway: If you have a bedroom that needs some TLC I hope this process inspires you to get going. Clear out as much as you can to look at the room in a fresh way. I would encourage you to also strip it of any outdated textiles {ie: pillows, rugs, drapes} so that you can see it in a more neutral state. From there, start looking for inspiration from something like a piece of artwork or a fabric you fall in love with. I will be asking Meredith to zero in on her inspiration piece for this room throughout this next week.
So we will keep this short and sweet today as I need to get busy planning with Meredith. I will be back next week with some ideas and we would love to get your input. Hope you’re off to a great start to your Monday. Be sure to pop in tomorrow for “It’s a Date!”
I also took some time to update my boutique page so feel free to browse around.
