I am a huge fan of a well-done accent wall. I have been so impressed with the many stenciled walls I have seen lately. That might be on my radar soon! When I set out to do our master bedroom accent wall, it was really important to keep it extremely subtle. I wanted the overall look to be elegant and understated. The number one key to keeping the stripes subtle is to use only ONE paint color. Here is the outcome:
They are super hard to capture on camera (or maybe it’s my lack of photography skills!), but I think you can get the idea. They really give the effect of fabric on the wall.

Wow!!! I love how this came out. It's really beautiful- the room just looks great. What color was your paint? I'd love to see the window for how you hung your drapes- I'm about to hang some, but still wondering where to put the bar (how high up, how wide from the window) . . .

This is really nice! I've always wanted to do this in my bedroom, but never got around to it. Maybe this summer when I'm from college I'll do it. Thanks for the inspiration!

Really love this room. Is that a sleigh bed and did you paint it? Penny

What paint color did you use? It is so serene!
Courtney {a thoughtful place} says
Hi Kelly! I used Smoke by Benjamin Moore. I LOVE it. It definitely is more blue than gray {which is what we wanted} but very very peaceful. Hope that helps.

Hi Courtney,
I recently stumbled upon your blog and LOVE everything you've done! I'm in the process of redoing the master bedroom and wanted to know if I could get your opinion. I love the same color stripes on the focal wall! I really want to put up picture frame moulding and paint the insides a darker color and hang a sunburst mirror over the bed, but not sure if that will work since I have a window on the same wall and worried about it balancing. So then after seeing this, wonder if the stripes will work? My first instinct was to do grey walls with silver mirror and silver lamps and I noticed you helped a friend with a grey bedroom with a similar mirror over the bed. My lucky day! But after seeing the grey on our walls, not sure I'm in love with it. I think I'm going to try out your color. Do you think a mirror like that would work over stripes? Would love to hear your thoughts!
