Operation Bonus Room is a work in progress! The time that I get to work on it is few and far between, but the striped wall is finished. Just wanted to share and even elicit your advice. I am always amazed at how stripes really lighten up a space. It also accomplished a HUGE GOAL of mine. It has always bothered me that the couch appears more grey when next to our taupe walls. So I was very deliberate with where my stripes would be painted. I wanted to be sure that the white stripe fell behind the coach line to help with that problem. Tan paint color is Cochise by Dunn Edwards. …………………………the plan Here is a reminder of the design board I came up with for the room. And here is where I need some help! I was thinking of using a grouping of white frames {as you see on the board}. But maybe I should paint one or two of them a bright red. Feeling like I will need some type of unexpected jolt of color. Any thoughts? Or do you have a different idea for this wall. My main goal is to incorporate family photos. This really is our family hang out room and a great place for a family gallery wall. This is what it looked like before: And now with the stripes, white curtains, and lighter pillows. Slowly but surely we are getting there. …………………. In other news, a huge heartfelt thank you to Jen from I heart organizing for the amazing feature yesterday. Jen is one of my favorite’s in all of blogland and is one talented and wonderful mama. Thanks so much, Jen. What an honor. And welcome to my many new readers. Hope you’ll stick around!

LOVE the stripes!! It really brightens up the room. I like the idea of white frames…but a pop of red could be really cool!

Love the striped wall! A gallery wall is perfect. Maybe instead of red frames, incorporate some red art. You are always so good at creating word art and such. It would add some fun personalized elements to the room.

I love the stripes and thought about doing something like that in our bonus room but the walls are sloped. I do have the same ikea blue polka dot pillows though.

Love the stripes! I have been wanting to paint some in my house….just can't decide where! Great job!

Love it!

Go ahead and paint a couple frames to see how you like it. What is the worst that happens? You don't like it and repaint. Or you could try fun colored mats. Or white mats with red polka dots, or other fun design.

The stripes look great! I like the idea of adding a few red frames in and it would be super easy to change down the road of you wanted. Congrats on the feature! So well- deserved!

I LOVE the stripes! And I definitely think that the white frames are a great idea, I don't know about the red frames though… I think I agree with one of the other comments about making some red/bold art to add a pop of color instead.

Beautiful! I want to do stripes in my small half bathroom, but so scared to tackle it in fear I will mess up the stripes somehow 😉 You did great!

Love stripes! I think you should still go with a gallery and incorporate some color either through the frames or other items (monograms, mirrors, art, etc.)

LOVE the stripes. You did a fantastic job on them! I just did some stripped curtains that I'll be talking about tomorrow on my blog! 🙂 Stripes MAKE a room!

The stripes look spectacular. I would stick with the white frames and place colorful artwork by the kids in a couple of them for that jolt of color.
Gail @ Sophisticated Steps says
The stripes are amazing. The couch pops off the wall now! As for the frames, if anybody could pull off throwing in the red, it's you! 😉 Don't think I have it in me. Lol.
Aubrey {All Things Bright and Beautiful} says
I don't think I will ever get tired of a bold stripe…it's just such an amazing way to add interest without a lot of busy-ness…and it looks absolutely perfect with the sofa, all light and bright and ready to be lounged on (c:

What if you use some red mats rather than painting the frames? I did this in our playroom and my son's bedroom. Just a thought. LOVE the stripes-what a difference!
Michaela says
Looking reallll good 🙂 Maybe you could mix gold and silver frames?? I don't know!
ECKDesign says
LOVE the stripes! Your frames are not too thick so painting them red would accentuate the red in the crewel pillows. Matting has to be the same mustard as wall though so that it highlights the actual pictures but not too bold to take away from the rest of the details in the room.
Lisa Scibilia says
The stripes look great, Courtney! How about a pop of red in something like a big letter F and/or something else besides the frames? That might be fun.
Michelle @ Ten June says
The striped wall looks great! I would totally throw in a few red frames…why not?! Especially if you are planning to do b/w pictures. They would bring out the red in those awesome Ikea pillows!!
Meg {Pink Fireflies} says
The striped wall looks amazing! I saw an idea on Pinterest of doing a handprint of each family member in a vertical line from biggest to smallest and framing it. What if you did a red hand print of each family member and put this frame in the middle of all the white ones? Still using a white frame, but the red handprints would incorporate a bit of color while remaining true to your "family space."
Can't wait to see how it turns out!

The stripes are AMAZING! Love them!
Okay, if it were me, I would do all white frames but add the pop of color by using colored pictures in the frames.
One idea is to take a good quality photo of one of your gorgeous pillows, make it so the only thing in the frame is the pillow (so the edges are cut off). Then, print it out (or have it printed) in the size of your choice and frame it. Voila, coordinating pops of color.
I have done this with patterns I love (textiles such as blankets or rugs) and it makes great artwork. 🙂
Great job!

I LOVE the idea of having some of the frames red along with the other white frames. I wish I wasn't renting you have so many good ideas.

Your bonus room is looking AWESOME! My vote is for all white frames – lots of them! – with pops of color within some of them thru colored photos or other art. OR since you already have the black frames, you could try mixing black and white frames with the same idea of pops of color within some. Can't wait to see what you come up with – I'm sure it will look great as always!
MJ @ 517 Creations says
LOVE the stripes! I can't wait to see what you do…we have a very similar wall color and our couch is almost the same color as our wall. I'm definitely looking for inspiration! 🙂
Megan {Honey We're Home} says
The stripes came out beautifully- and I agree that the white stripe is perfectly placed against the sofa. Red frames would be really cool- and of course, super easy to change out:)
Allison says
Fabulous job with the stripes, Courtney! I think I'd paint a few red and mix in with the white ones. See how it looks. It's easy to change to white if you wanted. A few red might be fun!

I never get tired of stripes. I hope they aren't trendy because I really love them and hope they stay around for a long time! Your room looks great!!! Yes, I think you should add a pop of color and red would be a great choice because of your pillows. Way to pay attention to detail on your striping. You are so right about the white stripe should be right there! Rock On!!
