While we are trying to get organized around here, I thought throwing in a sewing project would be a good idea. I am not sure why I pick such random times to do projects. With the kids home this summer, it’s a huge juggling act and let me tell you, it’s not that pretty around here. So for Friday Eye Candy this week, I am banking on you! I am conducting and Instagram search so if you want to submit a photo to be featured you can find me here @athoughtfulplace. And look for the photo below to enter. The project I am working on is for our living room. We have lived in this house for over six years and I am just now getting around to window treatments. I kept going back and forth on whether or not to do them. Plus, it’s taken me six years to fall in love with a fabric. But I finally did. More on that later. All in good time! So the drapes are almost finished. I may have completed them had I not made best friends with the seam ripper. I know better than to not double and triple check that “ride sides are together” but alas I totally screwed up one panel. Oh, well. ……………keeping it “sew” real So I thought this was pretty funny. If you look at my sewing spot it looks rather serene and pleasant. It is close to a door that can open for fresh air and has plenty of natural light. Looks lovely, right?! But looks can be deceiving. If you stand back . . . it’s a hot mess! My kids decided that they needed to be right next to me. This was even after doing craft time with them. So they built a super cool dog hotel. It’s complete with a hospital, dog office, and grocery store. And don’t you dare touch any of the cushions! So while I was sewing away, the kids were glued to my side entertaining their dogs. So while we may clean up well for photos around here, the usual state of affairs is chaos. Please know that. I never want you all to think other wise. Granted, this is our upstairs family room {ie: playroom, movie watching central, and work space for mama} but it is always a disaster. In fact, if you popped in I would challenge you to find a spot to place a foot down. I have decided that I need to let things like this go. The kids are having fun. They are being creative. And creativity is messy! I hope I am not alone in my house looking like this on a daily basis. And while our living room is never close to picture perfect, it does give me a bit of peace to know it’s not complete chaos all of the time like our upstairs room. Speaking of living rooms, don’t forget to post a photo of yours on IG. Would love to feature you on the next Friday Eye Candy. #athoughtfulplacefridayeyecandy As soon as the drapes are finished and hung I will give you a peek. Hope you enjoy your day! We are off to enjoy the sunshine with our cousins. enjoy your day

I can't wait to see what the drapes look like! As for the chaos, I'm looking at paper scraps in my living room from my daughter making a crown…even though we have a game room, a craft room, and her bedroom for her to play in, she (and her brothers) always choose to be right in the middle of the house! Lol.

Oh thank goodness I'm not alone! It' a hard balance to strike, keeping things tidy, passing on the importance of picking up after yourself, but also just letting kids be kids!

Loving what I am seeing. And, coming from a mom who wished she had worried less about messes when her two were growing up…let them make them and don't worry about it. All too soon they are grown and there are no messes. Baby girl is home for summer and I have to say, I haven't cared a bit about what her room, bathroom and my craft room (she is using it for projects she is making for her room at school) look like. All too soon, she will be back at school and they will be quiet and clean.

um yeah my basement typically looks like a bomb went off – but i love to hear them playing and giggling so I try not to get to bothered by the disaster zone

A relief to know your house is not always as neat as your photo shoots cuz when my house is a disaster I love to scroll through your house tour and those of the other blogs I follow! And of course the kiddos want to be right next to you. They are your biggest fans. Can't wait to see the drapes.

Never tire of seeing your living room Courtney…so pretty. Look forward to seeing it with the new drapes! Totally agree with letting the messes be…our playroom and lots of other rooms stay a mess too from kids' creative projects 🙂

Coming from a mama with no playroom or den, our living room is in a constant state of disarray. Love to see that it happens elsewhere, too 🙂 As for your fabric, I'm pretty sure that's the fabric I have in my kitchen (for roman shades)…I am obsessed with it and wish I had somewhere to use it for full panels! Love it!

Your room is such an inspiration, I've borrowed some of your ideas, and incorporated them thru out the house, but my absolute favorite are the pillow covers..I love that fabric!

I love it when bloggers post "real life" pictures! It makes me feel relieved knowing that even their homes aren't perfect all the time! You sure have two creative kiddos, and how sweet that they do it all together. Can't wait to see those pretty panels, Miss Courtney! I know they'll be gorgeous!

This home has haunted my dreams — in the most wonderful way, of course. Beautiful home renovations in Los Angeles.
