I have to share one of the funnier moments I have had in a long time. My poor husband is always putting up with my next crazy design idea. He is more than thankful that I have this little blog as an outlet since I seem to never stop talking about house stuff. Two nights ago we are sitting on the couch and I come across this rug: {carleen – rasberry} Our conversation went like this: me: Ughhh. This rug is amazing. Maybe I can find one just like it {knowing I won’t own a Madeline Weinrib} hubby: Ughhh. me: What? It’s just a rug? hubby: Yeah, the gateway rug. me: {laughing hysterically} You know what? He is so right! Have you ever looked at a piece of furniture longingly or a great chair and thought, “I can design the whole room around this.” And yet it doesn’t match a darn thing you own and you really would have to redesign the whole space. I am a bit guilty of that. So when I am looking at a hot pink rug {that wouldn’t have a proper home anywhere in our house right now} I know my husband is beginning to panic. It really is the “gateway rug!” With that, I can’t leave you without showing some more of Madeline Weinrib’s amazing designs. They are not rugs. They are pieces of art. Enjoy! {Madeline Weinrib Atelier} {Mandala – White & Black} {Madeline Weinrib Atelier} {Madeline Weinrib Atelier} {Carleen – Indigo} {Mandala – Chartreuse} {Mums – Coral} {Mums – Light Blue} {Orleans – Hot Pink} {Stripe – Strawberry} {Zig Zag – Blue White} {domino} {décor pad} I could stare at Madeline Weinrib’s creations all day. And to think she now has her hand in a fashion line as well as wall paper. So much inspiration. Do you have a favorite? I am partial to the gray and white one in the last image. Beautiful.

Swoon, that just made my morning.
My husband is familiar with the gateway item… it is usually accompanied by dropped shoulders and a head roll. The head roll being the dead giveaway that something is too pricey, but he'll deal with it because he has a closet full of suits.
What's worse than the gateway item? Trying to convince them something is 'timeless'. 🙂

Everything she creates is perfection. Why can't she do a Madeline Weinrib for Target line?! 😉

Oh so pretty! I love the strawberry stripe and Orleans for a girls' room. The zig zag is pretty cool too. I, too, often have to turn away many a wonderful piece because it just doesn't go with what we've got going on in our house. Such a shame!

All of Madeline's rugs are beautiful, art really, like you said. They are sooo pricey so I am always on the lookout for a great knock off.

I just wanted to mention that you could get a really cheap, plain rug — maybe sisal? I'm not sure about what exactly — and take the inspiration from a M.W. (whether it's the colors, or the overall feel) and PAINT your rug! There are so many cool stencils out there right now (especially the ones you can use to do a repeating design on the wall), and you could absolutely use one of those to change up your cheap rug! You could even make your own stencil — stencil plastic is super-inexpensive. Just an idea — hope it helps you AND your husband. 🙂
