Mario Kart Party: A Colorful Birthday Celebration

May 29, 2013 by Courtney 25 Comments

We recently threw our son a fifth birthday party. He is quite smitten with Mario Kart. He discovered we have a wii not too long ago, and driving race cars with Mario has become his favorite treat. I don’t blame you if you have no clue about this. It’s a game where you can race around different tracks while racing the various characters. I think I’ve done it twice! While he only gets to play on the weekends, he was sure that a Mario Kart party was what he wanted. I LOVED every second of planning this party with him. He was sooooo into it and kept thanking me. It really was fun. I told my husband that the best part of the party for me, was watching how excited he was for the days leading up to it. We hosted it at a local My Gym so it really was simple. I made a few treats to decorate with and the little guests were then sent home with a goody bag of sweets. Here are a few of the details.   … mariobirthday I spent a bit of time using chocolate molds to make all of the candy, so for the cupcakes I simply ordered them from our local store. I chose the colors and then made the cupcake toppers to put in each one. I had no idea Mario Kart was such a popular party. After searching Pinterest, I was inspired by this party {Tammy Mitchell} and this party. {Amy’s party ideas} I can take no credit at all. These ladies paved the way. I also found this site {One Hip Mom} which had all of the characters for me to download. ………………………candy pops … stars I made the  labels myself. It really didn’t take too long and it was easy to wrap empty cans in scrapbook paper. To give the cans weight and allow the candy pops to stay up, I filled each can with rice. red … greenpops …   mustaches … mushroomclose   …   ……………..…………..sweet treats … treats … ……………………….cupcakes … cupcakes Our five year old is a sweet boy full of love and joy. It was fun to see him play with his friends and just enjoy the day. After his friends sang to him, I caught this sweet moment on camera. Happy Birthday, Grady. We love you. … grady The cupcake stand is a Nordstrom box wrapped in red paper and then trimmed with polka dot paper. The smaller box is wrapped in mustache scrapbook paper. redbox ………………………….game over   … wiiremotes We couldn’t help ourselves with the play on words and sent our little friends home with chocolate wii controllers. They were easy to make with the mold and I wrapped each one in a clear bag. ……………………party wrap-up … collage birthday party sources mustache chocolate mold star chocolate mold – hobby lobby wii controller chocolate mold clear container for wii controller – party city clipart characters   To see other children’s parties we have throw just click on each photo below. Those molds are amazing… Especially the wii controller! I grew up playing Mario Kart on the N64 so I love this party on a personal level… Though I would have had to have included Wario since he's the character I always picked ;)! I love the picture you got of Grady… What a sweet moment!

This is darling! What a fun, creative party! I have fond memories of playing Mario Kart with my younger brothers, long back when the most advanced gaming system was an N-64.
