Good morning! With MLK day upon us, the children are home from school and we are enjoying a slow morning over here. My workout may be a bit rough after such a busy weekend. For some reason we felt the need to stay up super late every night. That’s so not our usual routine so it’s requiring extra coffee! We were a bit all over the place so here is our very random Monday Morning Wrap-Up.
WHAT’S FOR DINNER?
We tried a homemade mango salsa atop grilled chicken. It was sooooo delicious. If you are local, Albertson’s makes a fantastic fresh mango salsa if you don’t want to make your own.
It was nice to have the rain lift for a bit so we could actually grill outside. The mango salsa is just so great atop the grilled chicken. We also love it on top of grilled shrimp (thanks to my friend, Natalie!!!).
DIY TIME
I shared on Insta Stories that we are casing the window in our downstairs bathroom so I was able to paint all of the trim. I highly recommend purchasing a drop cloth from Home Depot or Lowe’s. It’s so nice to be able to throw it down and paint away. The wood won’t stick to it when it’s wet and the any spilled paint dries so quickly. I fold it up and tuck it away for every paint project.
KEEP IT MOVIN’
I am really trying to stay disciplined with working out. I just feel so much better when I do and I have more energy. My two go-to activities to keep this body moving are hiking and boxing. Zella is one of the few brands that is pretty darn consistent with fit and feel. I will say that I have had these for over 5 years. I have learned that if I invest in a good quality pair it’s better than spending money on brands that don’t last or stretch out. Do you have a favorite?
THE SUN CAME OUT
We really just savored the lovely weather this weekend. So gorgeous and we are prepping for another week of heavy rain. So a bit of sunshine was much appreciated.
DATE NIGHT
my look: jeans | boots | jacket | similar top
We headed out with friends on Saturday night to dinner and then to an Escape Room challenge. Just so fun. If you have any escape room challenges near you I can’t recommend them enough. So much fun to work together. It really is a great date night with friends. Also fun to break out the OTK boots.
FAUX STEMS
Many of you direct messaged me after I posted this on Instagram asking about the faux stems. These are from Magnolia Market . They often have sales which makes them very reasonable. I also find many realistic looking stems at Michaels. While I always prefer fresh flowers, it’s not always realistic and I like the texture and softness that stems add to a space.
DREAMY BEACH HOUSE
How beautiful is this coastal home from Patterson Custom Homes. Whenever I walk through one of my favorite neighborhoods I am always taken by this home. It has so much charm and I have always loved the look of weathered brick. But it’s the written numbers that make me swoon. My wheels are turning on how I can incorporate written numbers somewhere on our home. Do you like?
MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
“They will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” – MLK
We are all so much more alike than we are different. Something we talk about in this house on a consistent basis. If you have not seen Hidden Figures, it’s an amazing movie and one that is greatly aligned with the dreams of MLK Jr.
Wishing you all a really productive and wonderful Monday.

I read this last month and it was very good. It really makes you think about reality and perceived reality from different view points. I also just recommended this book to my friend, so I had to post here today when I saw this recommendation!! I am a quiet but huge fan of your blog Courtney!! Love everything about it:)

That mango salsa looks amazing! We’ll have to grill some chicken and shrimp when my hubby returns. Looks so delicious. That beach house is beautiful!! The brick, the little white gate, the black trim and the written house numbers! I would love to see the inside. How fun your group date night was! I adore the blouse you’re wearing. I zoomed in and noticed the pretty detail.

I noticed the written letters while living part time in ORANGE COUNTY and walking the Monarch Bay neighborhood. I ordered some online and put them on the trim above my center garage door! Love it and my address reads: Two, Two, Two!! I enjoy your blog very much, especially now back in Chicago!
