Good morning. What a few days it’s been. I was in Oxford, MS and am so grateful for the time there. More on that below. I hope you had a really good week. I stepped away from the blog for a bit knowing I would never get this time back. It’s lovely to be sipping a hot cup of coffee and back with you. Sharing life lately with our Monday Morning Wrap Up.
OXFORD
Oxford, Mississippi (where Ole Miss is located) is as charming as it gets. It’s a tiny town with tree lined streets, pretty homes and an adorable downtown square. All part of why my daughter fell in love with it. The nicest, kindest people and a very hometown feel.
When a friend heard my daughter was going through rush, she suggested I go for a few days leading up to bid day (parents are invited for that day). I never would have thought of going, but because I am within driving distance and can work from anywhere, I decided to go. I wanted to be a soft place to land in case the process became difficult. Plus it was a perfect opportunity to cook a home cooked meal for her and her roommate and take her out to dinner. So many special moments happened throughout the week and I am quite confident I was meant to be there. Very grateful for the advice to try and go.
MEANT TO BE
If you have been here for a while, you know that we walked the Alzheimer’s journey with my sweet mom. During that difficult time, Sarah and I became friends. We met via Instagram as she was sharing about her mom’s journey as well. She even wrote a book, Beauty in Alzheimer’s. We were each other’s support for years (although we never met in person as we lived in different states). While I was still checking in with her about her mom (who she recently lost) we weren’t up to date on other things going on in our lives.
I’m still processing what a gift this was, but I happened to see her shopping at a boutique in Oxford. We had no idea we were both moving our daughters in and there while they were rushing. Our moms brought us together, there is no doubt. We even attended bid day together and were able to grab dinner. Words can not express how special this was and now we get to share the next four years together with our daughters. God is so good.
A FAVORITE SPOT
I was able to take Riley out to dinner one of the evenings which was really special. We must have sat there for almost two hours and I loved every second of it. This is one of our favorite spots in Oxford.
LOVE THIS DRESS
Sorry so dark, but this dress is a good one girls. It’s more green in person and is so comfortable to wear. It’s more snug up top so probably not great if you are blessed with a larger chest. And it’s currently on sale. And I ended up wearing it with these mary janes (go down a half size). They are now on sale and so cute. I will be buying another color.
A much better look at the pretty green color!
WELCOME HOME
Riley is a now a KD and she is over the moon. My school didn’t have a Greek system so this is all new to me. And obviously some schools are much more focussed on it than others. I want to say that this process can be so hard on girls which leaves me so conflicted. I love the idea of her now being in a sorority and think it will be amazing. But I want to acknowledge that rush can be filled with anxiety and self doubt and that I don’t like. I prayed every night for the entire rush class that they know their worth comes from God and that they are perfect and wonderfully made. While the week was a positive experience for Riley, I know that isn’t always the case.
I also want to thank everyone I met at KD. I was so impressed with all of the older girls. They were kind, friendly, encouraging and so caring. And so down to Earth. What a lovely group of young women. They made sure I was right there when Riley ran “home” and was greeted by her big sister.
MORNING LIGHT
Now that I am home I miss Riley so much. But I know how happy she is. She begins classes today and I can’t wait to see how it all goes. So many milestones happening right now.
As for me, I need to wrap my head around getting our house back in order and jumping back into the basement project. It will be nice to have that to focus on. And as always, thank you for being here.

I dropped off my youngest on Friday. She’s just over an hour away, and we go to a lot of football games, so I will see her quite often this fall. I’m so happy that your daughter had a good experience with rush. My two oldest did just fine as well, but it’s certainly stressful. Rush doesn’t start for my daughter for another week (I’m not happy that her school is doing this the second week of classes), so I have more time to pray for an easy experience for her. I too did not have any background in Greek life, but all my children have participated, and I agree, I have met the nicest young people!! And I’m so thankful that these older “kids” can be such good mentors and leaders. Best of luck to Riley!

Courtney, that was Kismet that you met your friend in the same town doing the same thing that must’ve been exciting for both of you. I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother and your journey that you had to go through with Alzheimer’s. That is wonderful that you wrote a book and it will help others who struggle on that journey. Thank you so much for sharing. Hang in there.
