“MyColor™ inspired by Pantone® Painting Party” {Striped Dresser}

October 17, 2012 by Courtney 39 Comments

Welcome to the MyColor™ inspired by Pantone® Painting Party! A group of  DIY bloggers, including myself, have all completed projects using MyColor™ inspired by Pantone® paint. Now we’re giving you the chance to read our tutorials, gather inspiration, have fun and win prizes! Check out my project below and then jump to the other blogs in the party for even more inspiration! Official party time kicks off at 12pm EST. Enjoy! a thoughtful place If you are a regular here at my blog, than you know that my daughter is wanting to edit some of the pink from her room and have it feel a little bit more grown up. I had purchased Ikea dressers a while back and they remained unpainted until this opportunity arose. This party gave me the much needed jump start to create some fun dressers for her new grown up looking room. Here is the dresser before: IMG_9638   To complete this project I used My Color inspired by Pantone in Bright White and Lunar Rock {light gray}. IMG_9650   Once the drawers were removed, I painted the top of the dresser and the drawers white. I used two coats for each. IMG_9669 IMG_9670 I then painted the sides of the dresser gray. If you do a project like this, be sure to paint the inside edges a bit as they will show. IMG_9679 To paint the stripes, I measured so that there would be one stripe in the center of two drawers. For the middle drawer, you need to tape off with painting two stripes in mind. As long as you keep your stripes the same width you will be in great shape. {I just divided the height of the drawer in thirds}. IMG_9661 IMG_9663 I did two coats of gray for the stripes with a drying time of about 30 minutes in between. Removing the tape while the paint is still wet is very important in getting really nice lines. I could not have been happier with how they came out. There was ZERO bleedthrough. IMG_9664 IMG_9666 For hardware I chose a simple chrome knob from Lowe’s.   a thoughtful place   a thoughtful place You can see how I made her monogrammed tray here. I used the gray paint to give it a nice fresh coat {it was previously green}. a thoughtful place I chose carnations for her room. They are rarely used these days, but to me that look like a little glass bowl of ice cream. a thoughtful place a thoughtful place Giveaway: How to Enter to Win Your Own Paint If you’d like a chance to win a sample of MyColor™ inspired by Pantone® for your own project, simply comment on my post and share how you’d use MyColor™ inspired by Pantone® in your next project! Feel free to comment on the other blogs in the party too – they’ll all be giving away samples! For a second chance to win, tweet your project ideas to @MyColorPaints using hashtag #PassItOn. Also check out and like the MyColor™ inspired by Pantone® Facebook page to get access to the schedule for today’s parties as well as the rest of the parties going on this month! One word…Gorgeous! I bet Riley is so happy with her new grown up dresser. Beautifully done Courtney. Those stripes are perfect I also love the carnations. I have a soft spot for them. Growing up my Dad would always bring a bouquet of red roses for my Mom on Valentine's Day and he'd bring pink carnations for my sister and me. I would love to win a sample of MyColor. it would be fun to paint a dresser for my niece for Christmas.

    Oooo…Courtney, loving this! Grey and white stripes are one of my favorites (the walls of my girls' playroom is done in just that). Given some new paint…I have a drop leaf table in my garage that is just waiting for my time and a makeover!

    That dresser is gorgeous and looks like a very expensive, "custom" piece of furniture! I would use the paint to give my toddler's future "big girl bed" a little bit of glamour!

    I would use the paint to give a small cabinet I bought to go in our bathroom at Goodwill a facelift. It needs help! 🙂 I'm thinking white and…another color. LOL Need to think on that more.

    My husband and I are expecting our first child in the spring and are in the process of preparing the nursery so needless to say, there are a dozen different projects that could use the helping hand of Pantone paint!

    Oh I love it! How has she liked the actual dresser? Are they sturdy enough. I've looked at them a few times at Ikea but wondered if they were too light weight. . . . Thanks!
