A New Bed: Deal of the Century

February 8, 2012 by Courtney 44 Comments

Holy smokes do I have a story for you. So my hubby and I bought a sleigh bed right after we got married. I have been contemplating changing it up to bring back into this decade. It’s actually a really beautiful bed with great lines and is very well made. But the chocolate brown color is killing me lately. I thought maybe I would have it painted. Professionally. Boy was I wrong. Are you ready for the quote . . . . drum roll please. . . . $1200 TO PAINT MY BED. Um, excuse me. You know how when you get a quote the standard response is, “Gosh. OK. Let me think about that and get back to you.” Not this time. I couldn’t even help from gasping and said, “Oh, dear. I had no idea. That won’t be happening.” So it was back to the drawing board. Perhaps I would paint it myself. And then I went to Target. This is where the story gets really good. My three year old and I were strolling the aisles when the heavens opened up and I heard a beautiful choir singing sweet hymns as I caught a glimpse of something scrumptious and white out of the corner of my eye. WHAT???? What was this??? Why is there a headboard in the middle of Target? I don’t understand. But I am not leaving it’s side. I waited patiently {as did my poor son} for 15 long minutes until a Target salesperson came by. I will spare you the details, but apparently someone ordered the upholstered wingback headboard online for close to $600. They didn’t care for it. But I sure do. And the price of this pretty baby sitting in front of me . . . .$150. Holy smokes I will take it! IMG_20120207_183745 {excuse the poor quality phone photo!} I guarded this baby with my life while at Target. A cute mom happened by and asked if I was returning it. When I told her the story she said, “Oh my gosh. You are totally freaking out inside right now aren’t you?! I am so jealous.” Well, she was right. I was trying to figure out who the heck to text to tell them of my good fortune. My sister got the text and a call! Now the saga continues as there was no way this puppy was fitting in my car. My poor family returned the next night with me while the hubs spent 40 minutes strapping it to the top of the car! It was nothing short of hilarious. So now it sits in my master anxiously awaiting it’s new home. I have a beautiful sleigh bed that will most likely hit Craigslist soon. Anyone need one? I have big plans for this baby. And for $150 I can sleep very well at night!

What a score! I am sitting here in front of my computer full with envy. It looks like a great piece and reminds me a little bit of Donghia bed.

That is awesome. I didn't know Target sold upholstered headboards either but what a score! LOL about the sleigh bed. When I lived in California I used to work at Ciel Home (do you happen to remember that store that used to be in Fashion Island??) I sold so many sleigh beds when I worked there. (helped me pay my rent!) Now I know all of those poor people are trying to get rid of them.

Ahhh!!! Courtney–I am so pumped for you! I didn't even know target had beds (I should have assumed that–haha-they have everything else). I have been in the market for a bed for oh–hhhmmm–almost a year. Mostly because I hate to spend tons of money when my tastes might change within the next few years. Haha. Great great find. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you get it all settled and switched out.

We must go to the same Target!…I walked by that with my screaming children and thought to myself…that headboard is going to make someone sooo happy. Sadly, my little ones were in a tizzy and I just had to get out. =) Glad to see it made it to a happy home.
