New Dresser & Advice Needed

May 8, 2012 by Courtney 79 Comments

Hi all! Hope you’re off to a great week. A couple of weeks ago I showed you how we reorganized my daughter’s closet. I am happy to report that her room has been clean. I am shocked. I knew she needed a good system, but I still wasn’t convinced she would actually follow through. But so far so good! Here are a couple of shots of the closet. IMG_8698   IMG_8668 We pulled a rolling cart out of her closet from before and replaced it with two Malm dressers from Ikea. I hadn’t intended on using these. In fact, I have been trolling consignment stores and Craigslist for a cute antique number. You may remember I actually picked this one up. I really loved this piece. IMG_5698 But unfortunately, it came from a smoke filled home {which was not made clear} and I couldn’t shake the awful smell.  I ended up giving it away before I read the tip from Janell about coffee grounds. Darn it! ……………………. new dressers IMG_8688 So I ended up picking two of these up from Ikea. At $35 a piece you can’t beat it. But the real selling point is that the drawers are very shallow. That is the key to keeping them relatively organized in this house. If they don’t hold a ton, you can’t have that jumbled mess in each one. These have a very low profile and work great in her room. IMG_8651   IMG_8689 IMG_8652 But now I need your help! Clearly, these need some love. I am super excited to give them some personality. I am going where many bloggers have gone before! So there is plenty of inspiration out there. Here is a reminder of what the rest of her room looks like {are you clear on her favorite color yet?!} …………………….. the space 4 IMG_2066 copy CASEYgrace25 {photos by Jylare Smith} …………………………..inspiration Because so many talented bloggers have tackled these dressers, the inspiration abounds! Here are three that I rounded up for inspiration: #1: Charcoal Gray Campaign Style {via almost makes perfect} IKEA Rast dresser #2: Chevron Painted Dresser {created by Michaela from Michaela Noelle Designs} DIY chevron dresser #3: Ombre Style Drawers {Via Pinterest via Nib} gradated color dresser So please weigh in and let me know which one you would do. Most likely, I will be adding either more sage green into the space or some gray items.   Is your vote for #1, #2, or #3?

Number one is too masculine and army for a little girl, love Michaela's chevron, but I think Ombre is perfect for Riley's room! Can't wait to see them. They are great little dressers. We stained one for our entry and Elie has two she painted a beautiful gray color to use as nightstands in her apartment.

I agree – ombre. I'm guessing you purchase a dark color and then gradually add more white for each drawer to get this effect? Or do you purchase small sample jars? 🙂

I think the ombre would be perfect for her girly room! I just bought two myself, to use as nightstands in my guest room, and I'm debating how I should re-style them. If you go to my Pinterest…I have an entire board devoted to the Ikea Rast dresser.

The second you showed pictures of her room, I thought, "It needs to be green!" Then I saw your options. Woah, Nelly. That's a difficult one. They're all quite adorable. However, it was always the ombre. 😉 I love the chevron too, but ombre would be easier! And that bathing suit hanging on the wall? Gah! I could eat it up! Cute!

I think ombre would be absolutely adorable in her room! Although I did notice that you can't see the dressers fully being next to her bed, so you might lose some of the ombre effect. I would go with chevron since it would still be cute without having to see the entire dresser.
