It’s so quiet today! The kids went back to school and I am missing my regular hugs and cuddles. Although I must say the house actually has a chance of being clean once again now that my messy minis are back to school. So I wanted to let you know about a recent update we did in my daughter’s closet. We are big fans of picking out a week’s worth of clothes for school each Sunday night. It makes our life so much easier in the morning. For so long, my daughter always wore dresses so it made sense to hang her five outfits. Now that she is a big second grader, she has been leaning towards pants. Because of this, it made more sense to use vertical storage for her five outfits. This also frees up more hanging space for her clothes. I used a shoe organizer similar to this and simply cut it to be only five compartments. It fits perfectly in the space and allows her to be organized for the week. The other tip I have is to include socks for each day of the week. That seems to be our only hiccup in the morning. She will be dressed and ready to go, but can’t find the socks she wants. So I finally got smart and when we choose her five outfits for the week, she adds a pair of socks to each section. We hang her coats, vests, and cardigans nearby so she can grab the one she wants to wear to school that day. Can you tell the girl likes herself some animal print! If you remember, we previously used cards to label each outfit for the five days of the week. read more about this system here Here is a look at her whole closet. If your have older children and their clothes are bigger, consider using a hanging organizer like this one. So one side of her closet is her desk space. You can read about that here. And the other is for her clothes. We keep the doors slid open to the right so her desk is always showing. When she gets dressed in the morning she just slides the doors to access her clothes. It has worked out really well so far. Starting 2014 off on the right foot! More organizing to come! To see my son’s closet you can hop over here. And our master closet before and after can be found here {with less than awesome photos!}

I use the same organizer for my boys outfits and it's a huge time saver in the morning. I even put underwear in there because they will "forget." It's so nice to see them come downstairs in matching clothes, too.

I love the idea of using the shoe organizer like that. I am in the process of remodeling my son's bedroom. He got 2 Spiderman lampshades that were made in the USA from his grandmother for Christmas and now he has to have everything Spiderman. That shoe organizer would really come in handy, thanks so much for the great idea.

Love the idea of using the shoe organizer! I may have to do this in my daughter's room. It would be the perfect height for her to be able to get the clothes herself and get dressed without my help.

Those shoe organizers are so handy! I am thinking of adding one to the very small nursery closet! I could even put back up diapers & wipes in there as well as cute little shoes. Possibilities are endless. I might just go and purchase one today! Thanks for the inspiration!

Love this! I just bought one of those organizers for my daughter's closet. She will be going to daycare soon and it will be much easier to lay her outfits for each day of the week in them the Sunday before.

You are a wonderful organizer, Courtney! I love your daughter's desk area – so cheerful and happy! Closet organization and prettying up is exactly what I am working on in January. So fired up to get them cleaned out!
