I am not about to let the painted pumpkin train pass me by. From the cover of Country Living to the gorgeous photo of the orange and white chevron pumpkin see here, throwing down with some paint is all the rage. These aren’t your grandma’s orange pumpkins anymore. I decided to tackle a few little pumpkins and created a fall vignette with them. I am sticking with my green, cream, and brown theme which I first showed you here. I picked up two white craft pumpkins from Target and then grabbed green and brown craft paint from my local store. Now let’s get real people. Not sure if you saw the cover of Country Living magazine, but holy smokes. There is no way I could ever tape off tiny little rows of chevron, let alone some chunky ones for my little pumpy. I guess I just don’t have the taping skills I wish I did {when is someone going to come out with pre made chevron tape rows???} So here is what worked for me. I only taped one row!!! Than I traced that row with a pencil. Once I traced it I took the tape off and free handed the other rows. SO MUCH FASTER MY FRIENDS. It really was not hard to draw a few straight lines to parallel what was already there. Once the rows were drawn, I used a small paint brush and just free handed the painting. I knew I could get lines that appeared more even than if I pulled off tape at the end. It really only took about ten minutes to paint the pumpkin. I ended up going back and doing one more coat just to be sure the paint was nice and thick. On the vignette, I used the extra chalkboard I created from an empty frame. You can see step by step how I made one for our outdoor welcome basket right here. The tray is from my wonderful friend Elizabeth over at Pretty Smitten. I replaced the monogrammed insert with a 12 x 12 piece of cute chevron scrapbook paper for the fall. Tape will not lay perfectly straight to go around a pumpkin so I did something similar with the striped pumpkin. I put one piece of tape in a nice straight line {or so I thought} and traced it. Then I removed it and added another row to trace. That left me with a nice wide stripe that I just needed to fill in with brown paint. Again, I used two coats. These little tiny baby pumpkins I spray painted heirloom white {they were orange} and hand painted one with polka dots and the other with an argyle style. I copied this pinterest inspiration for those sweet pumpkins {made by lolly jane}. The hurricane I wrapped half way up using rope and a hot glue gun. The burlap bow ties in nicely with my dining room chairs that now have a burlap bow on the back of them. The green chevron pumpkin is sitting on a soup can that I wrapped with rope {similar to my rope vases seen here}. I know the apple green is a bit unexpected for fall, but I really like the fresh feel it has. It also allows me to stay super neutral with the other parts of the décor. So what about you? Have you busted out the paint and thrown down with some fancy pumpkins. There sure is cute inspiration out there. have a great day {other fall projects} coffee inspired tablescape outdoor welcome basket fall mantel Linking up with Thrifty Décor Chick

Again, I'm totally digging the color scheme. You are absolutely right, it is unexpected, but nothing says fall like apples. This color green reminds me of Grannysmith apples. Also the different patterns on the pumpkins look adorable.

I'm not particularly crafty, but I love this idea! Particularly because I love chevron and the traditional orange/black Halloween decorations don't really work with my color scheme. Thanks for the inspiration!
