Well, the birthday party is in full swing as the invites have been hand delivered. My daughter is all about the Japanese theme {inspiration post here} and wanted to create fortune cookies. And who knew the Japanese actually are responsible for inventing the fortune cookie? We followed this tutorial and adapted them by turning them into invitations. They were really easy so if you are thinking you might be up for it, go for it. Here is a look. My daughter traced a plate and cut out each circle of tan felt. After printing the invites, it was a couple dabs of hot glue and the invites were done. I used my beloved PicMonkey to create the fortune slip. And no exaggeration, with the existing overlays they have it only took me about ten minutes. If you choose to make them I combined a leaf pattern with a flower pattern. I just had to change the size and color of each to create a cherry blossom. And what’s better than a pretty tray of giant fortune cookies?! I hope this sets the stage for a really fun Japanese inspired party for my daughter. And if you are curious, her grandma sent her the most wonderful investigation series on Japan and that is what had her hooked. She has poured over the book about Japan and can’t wait to have a party that reflects this new interest. Now onto the décor . . .

I am thrilled that the kiddos were so inspired by Highlights Top Secret Adventures (Japan); hope the future episodes are as entertaining! 🙂

Those are the cutest invitations and I love that R was involved in the making of them!! You two did a wonderful job. When I was your daughter's age I was very interested in Japanese culture and also a lover of sushi. I have a fun photo of me at 8 wearing my Japanese kimono. R will have such a fun party! My husband was raised in Japan and lived there until he was 18.

My youngest had a party at our local Chinese restaurant in middle school. The girls had a blast choosing/trying different types of food. And, her take home favors were in Chinese take out boxes.
