So excited to finally be showing more of our playroom. Today is part one of the reveal. I call this our family playroom because it truly is. While we hang out a great deal in our more formal living room, this is where we get down and dirty to create, imagine, relax, and goof off. This room sees it all. And most of the time, I am in here with the kids as they play or we are all playing together. There are tons of pillow as there is almost always a fort being built! I have not shied away from color in the rest of the house, but this room really embraces it. The more color the better. Here is a look into our family playroom. The white pedestal table is a recent find from HomeGoods. I love it because the top is mirrored which adds a little glam to the space. I am a huge believer that things can still be beautiful even with kids playing in the room! I picked up the floral pillows below from Ikea over a year ago {at least} and they have continue to inspire the color palette in this room. I just love the periwinkle blue and the pops of yellow, red and green. The number pillows are simply white pillow covers from Ikea that I painted with numbers. Easy project and I have always loved the impact. I made them way back when I didn’t know to take photos for a DIY post! This cute little lace pencil holder is from The Container Store. I just added a children’s drinking cup in periwinkle blue to add a little color and hold the water for the flowers. The books are near and dear to my heart. My daughter loves to write and so the poetry books and writing manual are staples around here. … … The zig zag frame is a Nate Berkus find from Target. It has one of my favorite photos of the kiddos. They were running together on a bridge and Grady was holding on to his bottle of bubbles for dear life. The cute little ikat bowl is from Anthro. One of our favorite additions has been the chess/game table I made. The kids love playing chess with their dad and we have been known to have some pretty amazing games of monopoly on this table. When it’s not a game table, we can flip the table top over to reveal stripes. You can see it all here. I had posted about this art wall a while back. It is composed of art created by my two kiddos. I love the color combinations and especially love the hand prints. I sort of think the art on the bottom left looks like a pink hippo. Do you see that? The other night when we were all piled on the sectional for family movie night, I couldn’t stop thinking about painting the cabinets. I am not sure that is the way to go as I wouldn’t want to ruin perfectly great cabinets. What do you think? A splash of color? Leave them alone? I would love to know. And a final look at this side of the room. We just love it in here and spend so many evenings playing games, listening to music or building legos. It really is a family playroom. I also have my desk in this room and will blog away while the kids play. I learned a long time ago that it just makes sense to have my work space right in the thick of things. They are happy because mom is close by and I am happy because I don’t miss a thing and I can keep an eye on them! And here is a sneak peek of part two of the playroom! This side boasts an art/game table, bookcases, and plenty of toys! I know you want to see the toy storage. We are finishing up a couple more DIY projects to complete it. We also just did a major clean out of all the toys and are reorganizing the ones the children kept. It’s been so nice clearing out the space. It’s been Lego central around here and I love it. You’ll see below that I still need to style my bookcase but all in good time! I am hoping that I can wrap up the last of my projects {now that kids are in school there may be a chance of that!} and show you part two very soon! Until then, happy playing!

Love this space and I'm intrigued! Is this room upstairs with the bedrooms? It looks like a huge room that you usually find in a basement!

This is such a fun, warm space – I love it when visiting. I don't think I'd paint the cabinets – white is so clean, but maybe you could attach temporary patterned blocks or art work to the front panels which could be changed out to fit the season.

Lookin good! As far as the cabinet, maybe an apple or pear green or just pop on some colorful knobs? The knobs might do the trick…and hey, less labor intensive. I'm working my way through our playroom and toy purging right now as well. It feels great to get the space more functional. look forward to seeing more!

What a fun space, I love the gallery wall! I always have trouble painting something that is perfectly good in it's current state, but I think a splash of color would be great too!

Ikea has had that pillow forever, years. I've always loved it but haven't bought it. I have no idea why since it's all the colors I love and would look great with our giant red sectional!
I love your playroom. It's so crisp and clean. Ours is a bit of a mismatched disaster that I'm desperately trying to sort out before next summer rolls around! I actually started making my own pillow covers (since Ikea is a 50 min one way trek with Seattle traffic). I took clearance white napkins, stenciled on them and then sewed them together and stuffed with fluff from pillows I didn't want anymore. I love the number pillow.

What a FABULOUS space! Your kiddos are so lucky!! Re: the cabinet – what about just painting out the trim on the doors and then adding some fun hardware (like brass knockers) to the center of each door? Could be fun!!
Mindy says
I would LOVE to have a space like this. It's perfect for a growing family.
I wouldn't paint the cabinet, but maybe some fun knobs? Or even just a low bowl of flowers on the top for changeable color pops?
Denise Willer says
Courtney,
I am anxious to see part two of your reveal, especially the huge map you have on the wall. Your spaces are always beautiful and you can tell how much love abounds in your house.
About the cabinets……..I would definitely leave them white, but what about using some teal colored knobs for a pop of color?

{Hi Sugarplum!} says
So bright and cheerful! you know, I think the cabinet would look great painted in a color similar to the blue arrow you used in that pic!!!
Julie says
The room looks lovely and I spy lots of ideas to `borrow' 🙂 The TV cabinet? I think it's one of those things that looks fine until you get the idea that something could change and until it does you won't be happy with it! I think I would paint the panels inside the door and maybe change out the knbos? Maybe a bright colour paint, picking up another colour in the room, and crystal knobs to add a little more glitz in the same way the mirrored tabletop does?

I especially love the frames of the kids art. I'm big on framing kid's art for playrooms. I also found some cute printable just last night to fill 3 IKEA Ribba frames with to complete our other wall in the play room. Love seeing great play rooms like this!
