I’m super excited to show you our newly madeover powder room. When we moved in, we painted it a color we love, did the woodwork, hung a couple of photos and that was the end of it. I have been staring at a builder grade mirror in this bathroom for years now and it finally hit me. I wanted a distressed/reclaimed wood effect around the mirror. It was actually a really fun project and we are seriously thrilled with how it turned out. Here is a little peek. You can see the distressing that was made with a bevy of nails and tools. I love how it immediately warmed up the space and provided the much needed character it was missing. Here is the wood when I brought it home from Home Depot { I will do a full DIY on framing the mirror next week} And here are the bad boys after their roughing up. You can see more distressed wood projects from my girls Cassie over at Hi Sugarplum! She created some gorgeous shelves. After deciding on a distressed wood frame for the mirror, I knew I wanted to warm things up even more with a pretty floral fabric. I had my eye on a couple but then bumped into this pretty number at World Market. It’s actually a shower curtain that I turned into a valance. It couldn’t be more perfect as it ties in our paint color {Round up by Dunn Edwards} and a blue I wanted to bring into the space. The starburst mirror was on clearance from Target and I just added some Rub n’ Buff to it to make it more of a brass/gold color. It was a deep oil rubbed bronze before switching it up. ………………… t h e d e t a i l s The striped towels, new hardware and cute hand soap dispenser also came from World Market. The blue ikat bowl was an extra bowl I already had on hand. Originally, these frames had prints in them from Home Goods. I removed those and replaced the center one with a piece of the floral fabric. The other two are a velvet piece of scrap paper. LOVE. The photographs that you can see peeking through the mirror were already in place. They are a collection of photos taken by my husband and me from different travels around the world. They are all places that hold really special meaning to us and our relationship. I really wanted to mix different finishes in the space to give it more interest. While the mirror now sports a very distressed feel, I wanted the polished chrome towel bar for the hand towel. I like that it sits beneath an ornate gold frame {also a DIY project. . . simply sprayed the glass with chalkboard paint}. And yes, that is a not so subtle reminder to my children. The towel originally hung on a little hook but I didn’t like how messy it always appeared. This is much more tailored {yes, that is my OCD talking}. I must say that this is hands down the HARDEST room in my house to photograph. Between trying to keep myself out of the shots and not getting enough natural light to ever really capture the true colors, it can be a bit frustrating. In person it really gives off a warm and collected vibe. What about you? Are there any spots in your house that need some warming up? Oh, and because I am obsessed with my new mirror here is one last little shot. have a great day Sharing with Under the Table and Dreaming

So pretty – I love the distressed wood and the combination of that with the "fancy" chalkboard frame and polished chrome. Great job Courtney!

Looks awesome! What is the name of the pattern of the curtain?
Courtney {a thoughtful place} says
Hi Jamie. . here is the link http://www.worldmarket.com/product/spiced-palampore-shower-curtain.do?sortby=ourPicks&from=Search although in the photo online it looks so much more blue. It really has a better balance of the colors in person.

BEAUTIFUL! Love the distressed wood frame. The whole space seems very warm.
Shannon says
That's just gorgeous! Any idea of a similar shade of paint from another company – Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams maybe? I don't have that manufacturer in our area.
Shannon says
Also, what is your ikat bowl sitting on? Is it a plate rack or something like it. I confess that I hit World Market today for a few of these things and was shocked that the soap dispenser isn't ceramic.
Kasey @ Hello! Lola says
I love distressed wood. I also love how rich and dark the frame is. This will probly be something we do with our Master Bathroom, instead of buying two separate mirrors for above the vanity, buy one large mirror and frame it. I will either go the rich dark stain route or a light 'beachy' hue. Your powder room is lovely 🙂
Aubrey {All Things Bright and Beautiful} says
Yeah, I'm obsessed with your new mirror, too! It turned out absolutely fantastic…I'm completely impressed with the distressing because I know it's definitely not as easy as it looks (it never is, is it? (c:). And a shower curtain??? It's such an awesome fabric! I need to start seeing things with my DIYer eyes (c;

I would have never thought of this, but wow does it work! The mix of the rustic with the traditional elements really work! Impressed with how you got that corner to work, with the mirror frame and the molding up flush. Janell

The frame totally makes the room! I love the color and rustic elements. Also loving the knobs. I think that's my favorite part of any room:)
Amelia @ House Pretty says
The mirror is gorgeous! I love the warmth and texture it brings to the room. And the wall of photos of places you have travelled is such a great idea! I try to collect art or have photos printed from every trip we take – it's so nice to be able to look around your home and be reminded of those times!

It looks beautiful! Love all the personal details. Where did you find the hand soap?? I would love it in my own bathroom.
Traci says
I turned out really great. I live the fabric you chose for the window treatment!
Lisa says
I love the mirror! I am always intimidated by the framed mirrors that involve angled cuts so I love that you didn't do that. Our downstairs guest bathroom doesn't have a window and is currently covered in grasscloth wallpaper and it's screaming for a makeover!
Love the colors you chose! Gorgeous!
iheartorganizing says
You absolutely thought of every last detail. I adore that you turned a shower curtain into a window treatment, you have major skills. Love the knobs and all of the finishing touches. And the frame around the mirror, wow, it's a heart stopper!
xo!
