The Power of a Lamp

January 27, 2011 by Courtney 30 Comments

A while back I took a stroll through HomeGoods. I found a lovely little lamp that was calling my name. The pretty little lamp was turquoise and I knew she was comin’ home with me. What’s so interesting about that? I have zero turquoise in my home. In fact, with warm colors dominating most of our home, there isn’t even a spot where turquoise seemed to fit in. And believe me, I tried. My husband has seen this lamp in EVERY room now. As I see it, there is really only one solution. Redecorate an entire room around a lamp. That’s right! I’m doin’ it. I have fallen in love with the color and I have been craving a change. Those of you who have stuck around long enough to see the myriad of throw pillows that have sat comfortably on my couch might be rolling your eyes right now! I was afraid to leap off into the land of cooler colors, but thanks to my new favorite lamp . . . I am well on my way.  In fact, I am diving head first. Here is a little glimpse of the direction I am going. IMG_9330 IMG_9328IMG_9332 I had planned to show you a candlestick makeover that I have been working on. All was going smoothly until the top of the candlestick fell off in my hands. Not at all cool. So it is currently sitting in my garage with a heavy weight on top while the wood glue goes to work. The best laid plans! What about you? Have you designed an entire room around one little piece? I would love to hear that I am not alone! Tomorrow I will be showing you a great little Ikea find that has done wonders on my junk drawer! Who knew a junk drawer in my house could actually look good.

Oooh what a nice colour. I love that chevron cushion too. I haven't had the opportunity to really get stuck into decorating our living space as yet, as we are renovating and nothing really compliments my concrete floor 🙁 I can only dream…
So I'm assuming your "drunk drawer" is the one you lean on when you've had a few too many? Hahaha! It's easy to get tongue tied with that one.
    Megs 🙂

Everyone always says you need a "starting" point when decorating a room. If it just happens to be a lamp, so be it! I love the color and can't wait to see the finished room. LOL about what Meg said about the "drunk drawer"!

Loving the new direction! Saw that lamp at our Home Goods, thought the same thing, "now, where would I put that?" Ha, now I can tell hubby I am not the only one who redesigns rooms because of one little find!!! I love chocolate and blue, as you know, so can't wait to see it all. Okay, I just about fell off my stool when I came across "drunk" drawer!! And no, you may not edit the post. LOL

Love the lamp. The shade of blue is so soft and pretty!

I actually was inspired by my Yellow peacoat to come up with an entire moodboard for our Master Bedroom and bathroom 🙂

I would for sure plan a room around a single lamp. I think when you find one it's a great jumping off point!

Since my furniture is mostly neutral, I have changed the colors with accessories and pillows a dozen times and even seasons, so I totally understand. Hugs, Marty

You always need a starting point for great design, the lamp is perfect. I can't wait to see your new design plan. I've always been a warm color person, but suddenly the cools are calling my name.

I have seen that lamp before and love it too, but don't have a place for it. So, no more on those previous pillows?? And so funny about the "drunk drawer"!!

Your pillows are great and so is that lamp! I have designed a room all around a turquoise night stand so I know exactly what you mean. It's fun though. You'll have a ball and I can't wait to see what you do.

Sometimes all you need is one piece to push you in a direction you've been wanting to go down for awhile. Love the lamp and the pillows!

You're obviously drawn to that color for a reason. Plus I think it would look really fabulous with the lime green that you love so much if you want to pull it into other rooms! Yummy….and totally gets me in the mood for spring!
