After painting my son’s dresser lime green,I knew that I no longer wanted the chrome hardware on it. However, after snooping around and seeing that it was actually Restoration Hardware hardware {hehe!} it didn’t make sense to spend money replacing it. So it was off to grab some spray paint. I know there are some people out there who frown upon spraying hardware, but I have to say that this paint has been fantastic. If I were to buy new hardware, I would have wanted the Oil Rubbed Bronze finish. Well, what do you know? That’s what they sale. I love a $6 can of spay paint.
I attached the hardware to a box after making holes with an ice pic. It was the easiest way to get them to stand up so I could reach all angles. With the screws in the back it held them in place until they dried.
I ended up doing two coats and am thrilled with the results. So so happy that I didn’t go out and buy new hardware.

I'm with you…gotta love spray paint! My parents spray painted all their knobs, door knobs, hinges when they bought their new house and they've held up beautifully.
I just recently used this same spray paint for my refrigerator–and we are renting. 😉 But I am convinced that the homeowners will thank me because the refrigerator now matches the oven and dishwasher. These knobs turned out great! Such a brilliant idea to use a box to attach them to while painting them!
Spray paint is the best thing since sliced bread. 😉
And yet again…I am dumbfounded by the brilliance of attaching the hardware to a box while spraying! (Obviously, I've never sprayed hardware…yet, because surely I would have thought of that. Maybe.)
Sophisticated Steps
Spray paint is a DIYers best friend! The knobs look brand new – great job.
Yes! Definitely love the black!! It just looks perfect now! 🙂
clever girl using the shoe box to stand them up!!! they look great!
Such a quick and easy fix…especially when the hardware is good stuff! (c: Seriously, the shoe box idea is so ingenius…I'm pretty sure after all these blogging projects that my husband thinks I'm officially a spray paint addict. I think he's right (c; The stuff is just so great for *everything*!!!
Urgh…I need to go to bed, as evidenced by the above removed comment. =/ I meant to say:
The shoe box idea is absolutely brilliant; you are a star. And I'm running out to get some of that paint – I think my bathroom needs it and my husband is conveniently leaving on business at the end of the month. Spray paint party!
Love that! Looks great against the green!
