With the onset of fall, the idea of getting cozy with a great book, a cup of hot cocoa, and a soft blanket sounds amazing! Especially if it means a break from the noise and craziness of life.

When I saw Brittany’s {from a Pretty Hand Girl } magical closet transformation, I almost fell off of my chair. No joke. You see, during a weekend when she had the entire house to herself she thought she would take this unused closet of her son’s:

pretty hand girl before closetand simply turn it into this {oh, yes . . .in a weekend!}
Are you seeing what I’m seeing? Isn’t that amazing. You can check out Brittany’s entire closet transformation here
So because I was so inspired by Brittany, but lacking an extra closet {who has an extra closet? such a lucky girl!} I went out in search of what makes a warm and comfortable reading space. Take a look at these
HGTV dream guestroom
Laurey W. Glenn Southern Living
Marc Cutler Elle Decor
One Thousand Layers
Southern Living
Sunset Magazine via Apartment Therapy
So after being inspired by all of these fantastic spaces, I wrote down a list of what my cozy reading space would need. Here is what I came up with:
1. Great, comfortable chair
2. A reading lamp
3. Cozy blanket
4. A place to set my coffee
5. Some sort of spot to store some of my books and magazines
6. Overall feeling of calmness {this being the most important}
The new dedicated reading spot is tucked away in the corner of our master bedroom. I am there almost every evening either reading, blogging, or just plain zoning out! Here’s a look:
I wrapped satin ribbon around the shade to add a bit of color and interest. {some of the pictures were taken pre-ribbon!} My favorite hat boxes finally have a home! They hide magazines and serve as great spot to toss my current reads.
So there you have it. My version of a reading nook. Do you have a cozy spot that you like to retreat to? Would love to hear about it.

That closet re-do is awesome! I wish I had an extra closet! Your reading nook looks super cozy!
Happy Monday!
Bravo on your reading spot it looks great. I love that under the stairs nook!!
For years I have envisioned using one of my 3 window seats for a cozy reading spot, but it seems that every fall they turn into mini-greenhouses for wintering over the plants I bring indoors when the weather turns here in chilly PA!!
You need to come and spend a few weeks helping me decorate, Courtney!
Your mom-in-law 🙂
Great post! There is so much inspiration here. Love what you did with your reading spot.
What a great transformation…I am sure her son loves the space. I love what you did with the corner of your room! Very inviting.
What a great place you've carved out for yourself. Windows are nice in a nook too if you have them (which, luckily you do!) I'm still curious to see the whole wall so I can see what you did with your curtains since we have shutters too:)
Ahh, what a great place to curl up and read! Perfect timing with winter on its way 🙂
Already absolutely gorgeous, does it really need anything else! Love it!
can i come read over at your house every night? 🙂 my reading spot is loaded w/ to do projects and picture frames that need updating so I try not to stop when I walk by. love the ideas!! 🙂
Hi Courtney! I think I found you tonight via "Honey We're Home." I'm so glad I came over. First of all, 75 followers in less than two months?! Good for you – that's incredible! Second, you are the first person that's done a subway art that I think I can manage (I've always wanted to try it but the thought of cutting out every single letter made me so depressed). Thanks for sharing your ideas – I'm your newest follower! 🙂
Lovely spot… chic, but cozy! I have a similar spot in the master, I always refer to it as the 'quiet time' chair for my devotions. With children, however, there is NEVER quiet! Thanks for the inspiration photos… perfect.
How inspiring both you ladies are! I found my way over here from Honey We're Home. I lvoe your reading nook. I am in the process…
a V E R Y SLOW process of getting one of those. I love all the details you have. Simply worth a cup of tea..a good book and cuddling with that blankie. 🙂
Cheers~
