Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

December 18, 2013 by Courtney 15 Comments

Need I say more? I am such a fan of the savory/sweet combo so the drink that combines both is made for me. I love hot cocoa this time of year. It’s even great to serve near the end of a holiday party. The recipe I am sharing today can be made with all ready made ingredients or you can go big and make everything from scratch. That is all up to you! I made it simply with things I had on hand just the other day and it was SCRUMPTIOUS. So if you are a fan of the Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa from you local Starbucks, look no further! Make one and cozy up on the couch under the Christmas tree lights. saltedcaramelcocoa   The first step is to pour caramel on the sides of your mug. If you have made your own, you will want to heat a bit of it for 30 seconds in the microwave and then drizzle it in your mug. Then pour in your favorite hot cocoa {either from scratch or from a mix}. dizzlecaramel Once you have poured your hot cocoa into the mug, top with whip cream, a drizzle of caramel and a sprinkle of sea salt. This is the best part! The sea salt on top makes all the difference! saltedcaramel To make your own caramel sauce follow this recipe. It is delicious. You can make it and store it in your fridge for up to two weeks! Yum!!! Or if store bought caramel is your thing that tastes great, too! The idea is to treat yourself and enjoy. So keep it simple if need be.   saltedcaramelhotcocoa This may not be an everyday treat, but let me tell you . . .it’s so worth it. Cheers to the holidays. I am linking up this sweet treat with Natasha over at Schue Love and Heather with The Lovely Cupboard. Go check out all that they have to offer today. Scrumptious ideas! ……………. Other sweet treats that are perfect around this time of year are the hot cocoa stir sticks and chocolate cups. stir sticks a thoughtful place   cup5 ……have yourself a sweet day

Ha — we both had caramel and sea salt on the brain! So clever to drizzle your cup with the caramel first! Our Advent today is to make cocoa…I know what kind we're making now! And who's ever heard of homemade cocal…i thought Swiss Miss was the only way to have it?! 😉 Oh, and I need your polka dot plates, thanks.

I had this at Ihop and I've tried several times to recreate it, but my whipped cream keeps melting. Any suggestions?
