Hi all! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. We celebrated my husband’s birthday and my niece’s confirmation. It was a great couple of days packed with fun family time. I feel like I need a weekend to relax now! In any event, I have been thinking more and more about my veggie intake. We do well at dinner with a well balanced meal, but other than that the only vegetables I really eat during the day are carrots and celery as a midday snack. I decided it’s time to jump on board with a morning green drink. I have been hearing about these for years and never really committed. I tossed together just a few ingredients and I have to say I love it. It’s a healthy way to begin my morning and I feel really good about this new change. … ………………………… the recipe … one handful of kale one handful of spinach a cup of fresh berries one banana one cup of water {if I use frozen fruit, I will eliminate the cup of water} Now if you are thinking, “Boy that doesn’t look good,” you are not alone. My seven year old is a very adventurous eater but I didn’t want to force this on her. I simply offered her a taste. She took one sip and said, “It looks like dirt but tastes like fruit!” And she requested I make her one in the morning. I love that. So the above tray of ingredients is exactly what I placed in my blender. It made the above glass as well as a small juice glass for my daughter. The jury is still out for my son! What about you? Have you jumped on the green drink train? I know there are a zillion recipes out there so if you type in green drink in a search you will have many more to choose from. And I would love to know if you have one that you are a big fan of. Go out and have a great Monday!

I haven't jumped on the train yet, but I'm thinking about it and your recipe doesn't sound too bad, haha. I love your daughters statement-lol.

I love green juice. I juice more than make smoothies but both are good. If you start feeling lazy Bolthouse makes a great green juice you can buy. I do that alot too. It tastes like fruit but looks pretty scary!

I haven't tried this yet–but I love the idea of it. LOL. I just need to commit and give up my cheese toast (yes, cheese toast) for breakfast!

I LOVE using fresh pineapple in mine the best. Also, using ice in the blending process seems to make it a little more drinkable to me. 🙂

Yes! This is such a good post…I'm doing smoothies now every morning since the cleanse I went through last week. I add a little almond butter and flax seed too!

We are loving our green drinks so much that I ordered a juicer yesterday. It's great that the kiddos like it.

I like to include protein powder in mine also. It helps me to feel full longer. Also, I use coconut or almond milk as well (instead of water).

We do these a lot of mornings and my girls love them. I love them because they taste good and same reason you gave, it's a great and easy way to work some extra veggies into our diet! I love banana, frozen mango, frozen pineapple, and spinach. I usually throw some flax seed meal in too. I have one I just came up with recently that tastes like a pina colada that I'll be posting this week! (might be tmrw, have to check my schedule)

can't get a smoothie down in the winter (i'm usually cold enough as it it without a frozen drink!) but every spring & summer i get back onto the band wagon. luckily my son is young enough not to care about the color so we share one every day. since i'm pregnant i add greek yogurt to up my protein intake.

Well, if you put it in an opaque glass and tell G-man it is goldfish food, he may actually try it! 🙂

I love Riley's comment! I bought my husband a juicer for Christmas and we've been enjoying our green drink every morning. Feels good to kick off the day on a healthy note. Happy Belated Birthday to your hubby!

Can you use a regular blender to make this green juice or do you use a Vitamix or special juicer?

My son w/ Asperger's who is a VERY picky eater-eats far too few vegetables–has a green smoothie every morning. We're still amazed and can only hope this trend lasts! I start w/ frozen bananas (the frozen helps the texture for us), add vanilla protein powder and often PB2 peanut butter powder, then lite vanilla soy milk and frozen spinach. I started w/ fresh spinach, but we were going though more than I could afford and have room for in the frig! Now I use a 1/2 bag of frozen Kroger brand spinach ($1). This addition to his breakfast routine is by far the healthiest thing he will touch most days. And I only experimented w/ it after seeing some on Pinterest–thank you, Internet!
