Can you believe the school year is kicking off? What happened to summer? I’m not sure what it’s like where you are, but here my kids will be home full time. I’ve teamed up with Walmart to share how we plan to make this year go as smoothly as possible. I hope this gives you a few ideas if you are trying to make some changes before the year begins.
TIME TO MAKE THIS WORK
When we built and designed our son’s room, we never planned on including a desk in the setup. Both of my children have always done their homework at the island or kitchen table. They will still do the majority of their schoolwork downstairs, but in light of distanced learning and the amount of online class meetings that will take place, we thought it would be smart to give him a small work space in his room.

We were lucky to find this desk at Walmart. It’s not too large and works well with the rest of his space.
TEEN STUDY SPACES
- 1 | acrylic rolling chair
- 2 | ivory oak desk
- 3 | metal lamp under $10
- 4 | wood computer desk
- 5 | decorative globe
- 6 | mid century chair
- 7 | armless rolling chair
- 8 | parsons desk
If you are in the same boat and needing to carve out a new workspace, Walmart has so many great options. You can add a cute gold lamp (comes in many colors) for under $10. This rolling chair is chic and comfy looking.
The desk is the perfect size for this space and will give our son a quiet place for his classroom meetings. It tends to sells out quickly but you can enter your email to receive a restock notice.
PERFECT STORAGE DRAWER
This simple parsons desk has one large drawer. It’s deep enough to store notebooks which I really like. Nice to be able to tuck those away when not using them.
WHY NOT MAKE IT FUN?
- 1 | table and chairs
- 2 | striped bin
- 3 | grey pinstripe bin
- 4 | bean bag lounge chair
- 5 | toy organizer (12 bins)
- 6 | teepee with lights
For the younger ones, why not make it as much fun as possible? While a homeschool situation may not be what you had envisioned or planned, it’s a nice opportunity to create a special spot for learning. I love the tent with fairy lights. It sure makes reading time much more magical. The toy organizer is ideal for all of the little toys, cars, Legos and blocks.
I also spotted this table and stool set which is precious. You can check out more study space ideas for kids here.
Truth be told, I think I am still in denial that both kids will be learning from home. My daughter was really looking forward to beginning her freshman year on campus. One thing is for certain, this will be a year to remember so I am hoping I can set them both up for success. No doubt we will bet taking it one day at a time. I hope these study spaces give you inspiration for creating a dedicated spot in your home.
