Styling Spaces with Watercolor Prints

February 3, 2014 by Courtney 27 Comments

It’s not often that I go completely bananas over something. But holy cow. I feel like the newly released Waterlogue app is a complete game changer. I applaud all who are responsible for creating this remarkable app {and this is not sponsored. . .I just know a good app when I see one}. I know many people have seen it via Instagram, but so many of you are not on Instagram and I wanted to make sure you knew about it.  Moreover, I wanted to let you know that once you transform your photo to a watercolor, they print really well. Here is my newly styled nightstand with a water color of my daughter and me. It is one of my favorite images and I just adore how it looks  transformed with the app.

This photo was taken by my friend, Jylare, and made to look like water color with the waterlogue app. You do need to have the updated operating system to download the app. I do not, so I have sent the photos to my hubby to do on his phone. It’s probably a really good thing that I don’t as I would be stuck in a dark corner somewhere transforming every photo I have ever taken! It’s addicting.

The original photo is actually on my about me page.

My nightstand is very simple. I always have a photo, the journal I am currently writing in, and I try to have a fresh flower or two. If I don’t have flowers around, then I at least try to cut a few greens from the yard. There is something really beautiful and decadent about having something fresh right next to the bed. Even if it is free and from the yard!

The gold and black journal is a HomeGoods find and the bowl if from Anthro.

I also had this sweet print of my husband and son printed for G’s room. It was taken as they were finishing up a day of golf. It’s taken right outside our home and is one of my favorite photos. I just love how it turned out as a water color. It is now a part of my son’s gallery wall.

And the photo above I plan to have printed on canvas or photo rag paper. The texture of either will be so pretty. While nothing takes the place of a true watercolor, I am positively smitten over this new capability. Travel photos look just gorgeous with this app. It really is instant art. I have been having so much fun with our photos taken in Europe. And what a great gift for people. So what about you? Have you taken the leap into the land of Waterlogue? While it may be addicting, it is really quite remarkable.

Enjoy your day!
I have received so many lovely emails about our mirrored nightstand which we found at HomeGoods. A similar one can be found here.

Beautiful Pictures! I'm sure your Europe pictures will turn out just as nice. I've downloaded the app, but haven't had a chance to play around with it. Guess what I'll be doing tonight!

I have purposely not downloaded it yet because I know once I do I will go down the rabbit hole and obsessively turn all of our photos into watercolors! But soon… 🙂

Instant art! And homes and buildings look so beautiful. Luckily it's not on my own phone. I would be a lost cause.

I definitely need to purchase this! Can I ask where you had success printing your 'paintings'? They look great! 🙂

Hi Laura and LIndsey! I printed them at a local lab near me. Not a major chain. But they just uploaded them from my phone {as they were saved to my camera roll}. It was only a couple of dollars for a 5 x 7.

Couldn't resist, thanks to your glowing endorsement and examples of how to portray the final product. I spent New Years in London with my father; I can't wait to surprise him with some prints from our trip photos!

I have wondered how well they would print, thanks for sharing! Did you print on standard photo paper? Glossy or matte?

Wow, very cool app, cant belive this is the first I hear of it. Love your nightstand. It's inspiring me to keep mine a bit neater. Flowers by the bed feel so good too and I haven't done that in a while. I have a little madman (toddler) running around so i tend to neglect things like my bedside table from time to time.

Your nightstand is so chic and beautiful. And I love the addition of the watercolor prints around your home, you selected photos with such lovely moments. I have been wanting to do the same since finding the app, and have been picking out a few for our gallery wall.
