Summer Cocktails: Something for Everyone

May 22, 2014 by Courtney 4 Comments

It’s almost summer . . .and the living is easy! Time to start thinking about refreshing summer drinks. When my sister hosts parties, my brother in law always throws down the most amazing signature cocktails. This past Mother’s Day was no exception. I wanted to share one with you today that is definitely for the adult only crowd. But for the younger crowd or those who pass on stronger drinks, I have a recipe for my favorite summertime slush as well! Just keep reading. Cheers.

Mint Julep Slush

Makes 4 to 6 servings

2 cups water

1-3/4 cups sugar

3 cups loosely packed mint sprigs

4 cups crushed ice

1/2 cup bourbon

Mint sprigs for garnish

Combine the water, sugar and mint sprigs in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat and allow to steep for about 1 hour. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve. Cool to room temperature, then chill for about 2 hours. Put the ice, bourbon and 2 cups of the mint syrup in a blender. Process until smooth. Serve in old-fashion glasses garnished with mint. recipe source

Next up! Kid friendly slushy treats. You can’t go wrong with a chilled, yummy slushy.

Berry Crush Slush

2 cups crushed ice

1 1/2 cups frozen berries {strawberries, raspberries, blueberries}

2 cups orange juice

blend until smooth and slushy *add more juice if needed {serves two full mason jars so really four drinks if divided into smaller glasses} Even better if served in mason jars that have been chilled!! Yum!

Kid approved! While these aren’t an everyday treat . . .they are delicious for outdoor parties and special occasions. Quick, easy to make, and scrumptious!   Unrelated note, Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale started yesterday. Such fun things to show you in my Saturday shopping post. If you have a Nordstrom card {debit or credit} you earn double points today. On Saturday,  I will show you how I styled this and this. And my favorite jeans are 40% off. I will only buy them on sale and they last me forever.

Looks delicious, Courtney! Nordstrom ? For you: I love the Free People denim shorts you posted on IG recently. They have a white trim
detail down the sides…. Love that! Can't seem to find them online though! Can you provide a link? They are super cute!!

My sister would love the Mint Julep Slush. I will have to share the recipe with her. The Berry Crush Slush sounds so yummy and refreshing. We're entertaining this weekend. A casual grill to kick off the weekend. The Berry Crush will be perfect. I like the idea of serving them in mason jars.

Oh we are big mint julep fans! I actually planted mint in our garden for this purpose alone – well, that and mojitos. 😉
