Well, you made it to the end of the week! I hope it’s been a good one for you. We are still in celebration mode for our son. We enjoyed a pizza party with Grammy and Papa last night and will continue to the partying with our son’s friends on Saturday. Still can’t believe my little baby is seven. When did that happen?

A friend popped in to yesterday and saw our table set for Grady’s birthday. She went bananas over the table and couldn’t believe how easy it was to create. It occurred to me that I have’t really shared some of my go to table setting tips and tricks as of late. I love to entertain and set a pretty table but my motto is, “Simple is Beautiful.” It doesn’t need to be expensive or over the top.
Use Wrapping Paper
My favorite trick lately is using wrapping paper. I have used it in the past, but lately I am buying a roll for each family member’s birthday and building the table around the pattern and colors. It’s just fun to decorate the table so that when the child comes downstairs in the morning they feel extra special.
For Grady’s birthday table I picked up this blue and white striped paper from HomeGoods. At $3 a roll you can’t go wrong. You simply roll out however much you need and cover the table with it.

Why it Works: Wrapping paper is a great way to dress a birthday table because the colors are so saturated and bright. And now they make the cutest papers ever so you can pretty much create any look or feel. And because it is so inexpensive you can toss it after the celebration is done and there is nothing to store. It’s also fun to have balloons or streams that coordinate with the paper. It’s an instant party.
Grab Your Colorful Scarf
Recently I have been turning to my not so small scarf selection to add color to my table. I still wear the scarf above that I paired with my newly painted striped chargers, but I do have some scarves that I only use for the table now. It’s a great way to repurpose something from your own wardrobe. My guess is that you have a scarf in your closet or dresser right now that would look awesome on the table!

Why it Works: You really can’t beat a gorgeous floral scarf when it comes to beautiful color and pattern. And a pop of color scarf set on a white tablecloth will add so much. If you are planning to still wear the scarf, just be careful about spills. So far nothing has ever spilled on mine, but you do want to watch what you are serving. But keep an eye out for end of season sales on pretty scarves. They are lightweight and easier to store than runners. And you’ll be so much happier with the selection.
In totally unrelated news, I am mourning a pair of jeans. I know exactly how ridiculous that sounds. But if you have had a pair of jeans for over ten years and they were perfectly worn in you can feel my pain. They didn’t come ripped but slowly transformed over time and I loved them. I honestly have such memories attached to these darn jeans . . .well the perfectly ripped and threadbare jeans gave way. And it wasn’t pretty. I was walking through Nordstrom last week when I suddenly felt a draft. Yep! The worst possible place for my jeans to give way . . .let’s just say my booty was in view. Mortified, I bought a shirt off the clearance rack just so I could tie it around my waist. It was a sad sad day. And so the hunt begins . . . for the perfectly worn in pair of jeans. If you find them before I do, please let me know.
And in case you missed it, I linked a leopard belt above that is 40% off. Great buy. And rumor has it my favorite embroidered dress is on sale!!!
And now I am off to see about some party favors for my son’s celebration of Saturday. I hope you all have a wonderful Friday. Stop on back tomorrow . . . I can’t wait to share a gorgeous {and inexpensive} dress with you.
Enjoy your day.

Ugh, that happened to me a couple years ago with my favorite jeans and I still haven’t found a replacement that equals them. So sad, I totally feel your pain!

Oh no! Well, if you’re going to lose your favorite jeans, at least there’s a story to go with. At least you were in Nordies with cover up options around! I always worry my toe will get caught in my worn-in-by-me distressed denim! Can you sew a cute patch or some lace inside? Or are they just gonners? Bummer either way!
Cheers, Madeline

Love the wrapping paper trick! I use it all the time. Good luck on the great jeans hunt 🙂
Oh Hey! Blog says
The wrapping paper is such a fantastic idea, especially because there are so many options (especially at the cheap stores). My head is now spinning trying to remember all the patterns that are sitting in my storage cupboard just dying to come out!
